What grit abrasive disc on angle grinder do I use to give the correct surface preparation on bare steel prior to application of Jotun tie coat and Seaforce 30.

Assuming the bare steel is prepared with a suitable roughness profile of between 30-85 microns, achieved when using a coarse grit disc pad, this product can then be applied as the final coating, in the following 3 part tie-coat and anti-fouling system. We'd recommend to prime, 150µm Jotun Jotamastic 90 Aluminium Red Tone , followed by 100µm Jotun Safeguard Universal ES as the tie-coat, before finishing with 150µm Jotun Seaforce 30 M as the Anti-Fouling protective coating.

Please can you tell me if this can be used on a fiberglass boat, with a suitable primer if needed. Can it be used on a boat that is out of the water for 6 months of the year. Regards Paul

Unfortunately none of Jotun's antifoul products or Teamac's can be left out the water for 6months. The coatings would crack and fail. Unfortunately we do not have a product to recommend for this application.

In general we sort colours for products into 2 main groups - ‘Ready Mixed’ and ‘Tinted’.
Tinted colours will always be more expensive than Ready Mixed colours as they need to be produced at the time of order using a tinting machine dispensing colourant into a base*.
During busy periods, this means that tinted colours could take longer, for example – a ready mixed colour ordered on a 3-5 day delivery might arrive within 3 days, however a tinted colour might take the full 5 days to arrive.

To find Ready Mixed colours, search "ready mixed" or select the Ready Mixed 'colour chart'. To see Tinted colours select a colour chart such as RAL, BS, NCS, etc. or search for a colour/hue to see available or related options.

To ensure fair pricing, we split colours into ‘Price Bands’ to group together similar priced colours. If you wish to search for the cheapest tinted colours, always select Price Band 1.

Jotun SeaForce 30 M is a one component high solid hydrolysing antifouling coating based on ion exchange technology, providing good fouling protection. This is achieved by self polishing characteristics reducing hull deterioration. To be used as finish coat in immersed environments only. Suitable on approved primers and tie coats on aluminium and carbon steel substrates. SeaForce 30 M can be applied at sub zero surface temperatures.

Jotun antifouling products are intended for professional use only and have been specially formulated with increased levels of copper oxide as well as strong biocides for use on vessels and structures operating for long periods in testing conditions where extended service intervals are required.

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) deem them 'For professional use only'. This means we can only sell Jotun antifouling products to customers who confirm at the point of ordering that they will be applied in accordance with the appropriate HSE regulations.
