Eagle Aluminium Paint provides a solar reflective finish on all bitumen coatings and substrates for protection against solar degradation and heat gain transferring into the structure. Suitable for use over bituminous coatings, aged asphalt and primed steel, Eagle Aluminium Paint can be applied by brush or mohair roller and dries in approx. 1 hour - check below for curing times.
Use over:
- Bituminous coatings
- Aged asphalt
- Primed steel
Not suitable for direct application to expanded polystyrene.
Surface Preparation
All surfaces must be structurally sound, clean, dry and free from surface contaminants such as grease, rust and dirt.
If necessary, remove any organic growth i.e. moss or lichen, with a fungicidal wash.
If the surface is still dusty after cleaning, or covered with weathered bitumen, prime with Eagle Bitumen Primer and allow to dry.
Application
Stir very thoroughly before use - do not thin.
Apply immediately and continue stirring periodically during use, applying by brush or mohair roller. When brushing, use soft bristle brushes applying the lightest of pressure.
Over recently applied bituminous surfaces allow the following minimum periods to elapse after the final coat has dried before applying Eagle Aluminium Paint:
Curing:
- Hot applied coatings - 24 hours
- Solvent based coatings - 3 days
- Water based coatings - 14 days
Apply 2 coats, the second coat being applied as soon as the first coat is dry.
Over bituminous surfaces, apply the thinnest coat necessary to obliterate the black colour of the bitumen coating for the first coat. The second coat should also be thin - avoid the formation of pools.
Important
Do not apply when rain, frost or overnight dew are expected before the coating is fully dry, as bronzing of the surface may result if these conditions are not observed. When applying to large areas on bright days it is advisable to wear polarized sunglasses to reduce glare.
Drying Time
Approximately 1 hour depending on temperature, humidity, air and base conditions.

Questions
Question about the product
Adrian Brelsforth on 2021-12-13 10:07:45 | Question:
Hi I have an exterior wall that has been painted in black bitumen many years ago. If I over paint this with Eagle aluminium paint can this be over painted itself in an alternative colour using a water based paint? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the previously painted bitumen coating is weathered, it is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this could be overpainted with Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Water Based or Eagle Aluminium Paint. If you apply a further coat of a bituminous paint such as Eagle Aluminium Paint this would need to be left to weather before application of Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Water Based. We would recommend testing for compatibility and adhesion prior to full application on a small area.
Mark Evans on 2019-08-26 15:20:34 | Question:
Hi, Is the coverage on this product correct? "1ltr/8-10m²" as I see 1 litre per 1m2 on similar paints? Kind Regards, Mark |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
The coverage rate of Eagle Aluminium Paint is 4 - 6m² per litre, per coat.
