Preparation

As with all surface coatings, preparation of the surface is of great importance and will influence the degree of adhesion obtained and the life of the coating.

Ensure surfaces are structurally sound, clean, free from dust, loose debris, algae and any contaminants and free from standing water.

Repair all cracks, splits & grazed areas. Fill holes and imperfections with Eagle’s Bitumen Mastic.

Stick down loose felt with Eagle’s felt adhesive. Blisters in felt must be cut, dried, re-bonded and sealed.

Do not use on XPS or pvc foil or in areas where subsequent solvent or oil contact is likely.

Application

Clean all moss, lichen and debris from the roof to give a clean dust free surface. Aquapol can be applied to damp surfaces, ensure excess water has been brushed away and all surface contaminants have been removed.

Aquapol requires no primer, however, on highly porous or friable surfaces a heavy coat of Eagle Bitumen Primer may be necessary. It is therefore good practice to carry out adhesion tests prior to application of the coating.

Stir the container well before use. Apply by brush or roller straight from the container in a single uniform application at the rate of 1-2kg per m² depending on application & surface. Ensure gaps or cracks are completely covered, as Aquapol contains fibres that will bridge and seal them permanently.

Coverage and Drying Times

  • Coverage: 1-2kg per m² on average.
  • Drying Time: 2 - 3 days dependent on ambient temperature and thickness. However, coating is resistant from water immediately after application.

Question:

Can this product be used over cracked GRP which is above a marine ply box gutter system.

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

This product can be applied to a clean, dry, sound and prepared grp roof, but it should be noted this is a repair product and is not designed to be permanent fix.

If the grp roof system is cracked the area and boarding below should be checked and a new roof system applied.

questions John Magee on 2023-03-25 23:11:00
Question:

Hi - a roofer has proposed the use of Aquapol to rectify a roof which is subject to ponding in its central section. This is a flat garage roof covered in sound felt which doesn't leak, and drains to a downpipe in one corner. But because there isn't a consistent slope on the roof, water collects in the central area, and is only dissipated by evaporation. If I understand the roofer correctly, I think he plans to build up layers of Aquapond, in effect to give the roof a new profile so the water drains away to the corner without ponding. Does that sound feasible or advisable?

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Unfortunately no, we would not recommend this product to be used for this application to fill an area.

Please can you provide pictures of the area in question along with the approximate depth of the dip and also the m² area of the to [email protected] so we can look into this for you.

questions Patricia Sizer on 2023-02-09 11:00:06
Question:

Hi, This has been applied to my flat roof yesterday, partly on roof and lead but has cracked? What would be the reason for this to crack

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Thank you for the enquiry, we would need more information of what the roof is made of, the preparation undertaken, ideally with pictures of the area to assist.

Please can you send these to [email protected]

Question:

Hello Can this product be used over a lead roof? It is south westerly facing in an elevated position and is subject to driving rain which is getting up until the joins and dripping down walls and ceilings underneath. Would the whole rook need covering or just the lead joints? The lead is in good condition Thank you

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

While this product can be applied to many substrates including lead, we would need more information and pictures of the area in question to assist with a recommendation.

Please can you email [email protected]

questions Marie Kennard on 2023-01-12 14:01:00
Question:

Hi we have an old rice horsebox trailer. Unfortunately some of our roof is leaking. Part of the roof is fiberglass and part metal. All painted. Can this paint be used on fiberglass? And will the roof need to be sand it down from the old paint? Thank you.

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

As the roof is previously painted we would recommend once the roof is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet a test for compatibility and adhesion is undertaken prior to full application.

Lightly sanding the previously painted areas would be advised.

Assuming this is successful yes Aquapol could be used.

Question:

Can I use Aquapol on B&Q roof flashing tape. I used this tape to overlay on bitumen roofing felt joints, trying to stop a leak. The specification quotes Butyl.

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Butyl is not listed as a substrate this product can be applied to, it will adhere to many substrates, but you will need to test for compatibility and adhesion on a small area prior to full application.

questions Pat skelton on 2019-05-14 22:02:43
Question:

What is the max size hole (diameter) that will be filled effectively by using this product? I can see daylight thru a narrow crack in my garage roof and also a small hole approx half a cm diameter. A ‘handyman’ has suggested application of Aquapol as a solution. The roof is asbestos (asbestos/ concrete sheets I believe).

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

There isn't a defined limit to the size of hole that can be bridged as it can depend on the substrate but we'd expect it to bridge over half a centimetre with no problem at all. At worst if it doesn't bridge the gap then you could use a small piece of Hessian or plasterers scrim to help it to bridge the gap. In this case you would need to put some Aquapol down first around the hole, put the mesh or hessian into it and then paint straight over the whole area.
