Heskins Conformable Safety-Grip non slip tape for steps provides extra grip on metal treads such as durbar plate, chequer plate and diamond tread which, despite their design, can actually be slippery to walk on. Given that these metal treads are often used for fire exits, walkways, access platforms, etc., it is crucial that these surfaces are safe for foot traffic. The self adhesive anti slip tape has been used effectively on access stairs on cruise vessels and ferries, which are made from steel durbar plate. The raised surfaces, which are supposed to provide grip, actually reduce the surface area, making steps and stairs slippery.

Heskins Conformable Safety-Grip has a soft aluminium foil backing that shapes itself around metal treads, whereas a plastic-backed grip would try to revert to its original state. This has been effective installations at power plants which traditionally have lots of treaded steps and stairs, requiring grip tapes with anti-fire backing since the risk of fire is so high. One additional benefit of Conformable Safety-Grip being constructed using a foil instead of plastic base is that this gives it high flame retardancy levels. The upper surface is a conventional abrasive which has exceptionally high grip levels (coefficient of friction), even in wet or dirty conditions. The diamond hard mineral that Heskins uses (9 on the MOHS scale) ensures that good grip is obtained.

Safety Data & Test Results

The above tests were conducted in accordance with ASTM C 1028-96, the tests were conducted in a recognized independent friction testing laboratory, and copy certificates are available upon request. ASTM C 1028-96 is a static test, for the dynamic test results are available that are done via a pendulum with a four-S rubber slider© 

R118 approved

This is a test to determine “the burning behaviour and/or the capability to repel fuel or lubricant of materials used in the construction of M3 category vehicles classified II or III.”

Heskins Safety Grip was put through 3 out of the 5 tests that are in the R118 regulation (not all are required to pass). As detailed on the R118 certification, the material was subjected to Annexe 6, 7 and 8.
