High-Performance Fire-Rated Sealant

Designed to prevent the passage of fire, smoke, and gases through openings in fire-rated walls and floors. When exposed to high temperatures, the sealant expands to close gaps left by combustible or melting materials, providing a robust fire barrier. The product is highly effective in sealing large plastic pipes and can be used alongside Protecta Backing materials for optimal sealing performance.

Where It Can Be Used

Protecta FR Graphite is designed for use in fire-stopping applications in commercial and industrial buildings. It is suitable for installation in:

• Rigid walls and floors with a minimum thickness of 100mm (walls) and 150mm (floors).
• Flexible walls with steel or timber studs lined with 12.5mm thick boards on both sides.
• Plastic pipes up to Ø160mm, including PVC, PE, PP, and ABS conduits.
• Insulated and uninsulated metal pipes in various configurations.
• Cable trays and bundles, sealing electrical and telecommunication services.

Installation must follow ETA 22/0749 and UKTA 22/0027 guidelines.

Installation Requirements

Before application, all surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from contaminants. For corrosion-sensitive metals, a barrier layer may be required before applying the sealant. When using backing materials, ensure they are cut to size and tightly fitted before sealing. The recommended sealant depth and joint width must be followed for compliance with fire ratings.

Certifications and Approvals

• CE and UKCA certified for fire-rated penetration sealing.
• Tested to EN 1366-3 and classified under EN 13501-2.
• VOC emissions tested and certified by BREEAM, EMICODE, and Blue Angel.
• Approved for use in UK, EU, and UAE compliance frameworks.

Restrictions and Limitations

Protecta FR Graphite must not be used in permanently wet areas, joints subject to excessive movement, or underground applications. It should not be in direct contact with bituminous materials. Always consult the technical data sheet before application.

Health and Safety

Protecta FR Graphite is classified as non-hazardous under CLP regulations but is restricted to professional use. It contains trace levels of 3-iodo-2-propynyl butylcarbamate, which may cause skin sensitisation. The product is non-flammable and does not pose a significant inhalation risk when applied as directed. Always wear appropriate PPE and follow standard safety precautions.
