This single pack floor coating is a versatile and durable solution for a wide range of surfaces. Available in 12 vibrant colours, it is designed to protect and enhance the appearance of floors, walls, and other surfaces in both indoor and outdoor environments. With a semi-gloss finish, it offers not only aesthetic appeal but also practical protection against everyday wear and tear.
Application and Usage
The product is suitable for use on wood, metal, concrete, and glass-reinforced plastic, making it ideal for a variety of settings, including homes, commercial spaces, and industrial environments. It can be applied to floors, walls, ledges, and stairways. However, it should not be used on asphalt, bituminous surfaces, or thermoplastic floor tiles as it is not designed for these materials.
Before applying, surfaces must be properly prepared. For concrete surfaces, roughening may be required to ensure a good bond, which can be done mechanically or chemically using an acid etch. Existing painted surfaces should be cleaned, degreased, and sanded to create an adequate key for the new coating. It is important to follow the recommended overcoating times to achieve optimal results.
Performance and Durability
This floor coating provides robust protection against dirt, grime, oil, dust, and some solvents, making it suitable for areas with foot and light truck traffic. Its semi-gloss finish is not only easy to clean but also helps to maintain the coating’s integrity over time. The product is designed to dry quickly, with a touch-dry time of just a few hours and full hardness achieved within 5 to 7 days, depending on the ambient conditions.
Application Guidelines
For best results, mix the product thoroughly before use. Apply with a brush or roller, ensuring even coverage. The recommended application conditions should be adhered to, particularly regarding temperature and humidity. It is also important to ensure adequate ventilation during application and drying, especially in confined spaces.
Do not apply the coating in conditions of low temperature or high humidity, as these can adversely affect the drying and performance of the product. Always refer to the downloadable data sheet for detailed instructions and to ensure compliance with safety guidelines.
Recommended Complementary Products
For optimal adhesion and long-lasting performance, it is recommended to use the appropriate primers before applying this floor coating. For wood, consider using a penetrating wood primer, and for ferrous metals, a zinc phosphate metal primer is advised. For new concrete, use a thinned version of the floor paint or an alkali-resisting primer.

Questions
Question about the product
Robert Graham on 2021-02-21 09:48:30 | Question:
We painted Coo Var solvent based floor paint throughout the house nine years ago. It has lasted extremely well (better than anything I've ever used before - not even a scratch on stairs!) but now needs refreshing here and there. I'm looking to avoid the fumes, so can we use Coo Var acrylic floor paint on top (after sanding, of course)? Would it bond to the original floor paint? If not, we'll use the original. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the previously painted surfaces are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the Technical Data sheet we can recommend Coo-Var Acrylic Floor Paint as a low odour alternative. This can be applied over most previously applied coatings, but we would recommending testing for compatibility and adhesion prior to full application.
Michael Bryant on 2020-06-09 22:46:02 | Question:
I have a new build house with a garage. The floor is basically a layer of dusty lumpy concrete. Once swept can I just paint directly onto the floor? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, for application to concrete - power floated, granolithic and smooth surfaces should be roughened first to provide a good "key" for the paint. This can be done mechanically by abrading or blasting, or chemically using Coo-Var Acid Etch. These processes will have the advantage in addition to preparing the surface of also removing dirt and laitance. New concrete must be allowed to cure thoroughly which can take up to 3 months. The paint will mirror the profile of the substrate as such will not hide imperfections.
Steve on 2020-05-04 16:45:06 | Question:
How long does it take to fully dry? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This paint reaches full hardness in 5 - 7 days at 20°c.
C J Roberts on 2019-05-10 14:30:45 | Question:
What paint is healthy and safe to use on bedroom floor boards |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
'healthy and safe' is a broad statement and relatively vague as to what you require here but something like Coo-Var Acrylic Floor Paint would likely be a more suitable product to consider as this is water based and low odour.
Dianne Chlebek on 2019-04-28 16:13:33 | Question:
Can I use this on floor tiles. In a porch area. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, assuming they are glazed tiles we would instead recommend Smartkote Protectakote Clear Primer Treatment followed by Smartkote Safekote.
chris keeble on 2018-08-20 22:15:05 | Question:
would this product be adversely affected if a vehicle with hot/wet tyres is parked on it |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Providing that the concrete being painted is structurally sound, and the concrete has been prepared and product applied following the proper procedure (see product data sheet) hot tyre syndrome should not be an issue. However, we do always recommend the use of Coo-Var Profloor 2 Pack Epoxy Floor Paint in place of Coo-Var Floor Paint where vehicle traffic is expected as this would offer a far more robust and durable solution.
Chris williams on 2018-08-01 22:13:10 | Question:
Hi I just wanted to confirm this paint is ok for my concrete Drive ? Many thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Coo-Var Floor Paint can be used on exterior concrete however, Coo-Var do offer a specific product for driveways which would be preferred called Coo-Var Tennis Court & Drive Paint.
Donna burgin on 2018-07-12 12:41:36 | Question:
Regarding floor paint is it slippery when wet please as I want to use it on my outdoor concrete paths? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Coo-Var Floor Paint would be slippery when wet so we would instead recommend Coo-Var Suregrip Anti-Slip Floor Paint.
D Campbell on 2018-06-28 12:32:29 | Question:
Can this product be used on external patio ? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Coo-Var Floor Paint can be used internally and externally and assuming the patio is concrete, paving slabs or similar porous masonry substrate then this would be OK. Follow preparation guidelines on the product data sheet and apply the first coat of Coo-Var Floor Paint thinned 10% with Teamac/Coo-Var Thinner 14, then apply a second coat when dry, undiluted.
Marie Cresci on 2018-06-24 09:26:47 | Question:
Can I use this product on exterior floor slate? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, unfortunately this product will not adhere to slate.
Mark Burton on 2018-06-05 09:28:27 | Question:
Can I use your floor paint product code 1263 on radiators ? Thanks M |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We would instead recommend Coo-Var Radiator Enamel.
Sue Desmond on 2018-04-22 11:11:17 | Question:
What do you recommend for painting an exterior small patio sized rough concrete area please? It is a solid piece and has little foot traffic. Thank you |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Coo-Var Floor Paint would be suitable for this assuming there is a damp proof membrane in the slab. See preparation and application details on the product page.
Jenny nurmi on 2018-02-11 16:19:22 | Question:
I want to paint my paving slabs driveway ( no cars go on it, just kids bikes!) what paint would be best and do I need a base coat and sealant on top? Thanks Jenny |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Coo-Var Floor Paint could be used for this, to bare concrete you can apply the first coat of Coo-Var Floor Paint thinned 10% with Teamac/Coo-Var Thinner 14, then apply a second coat when dry undiluted.
Peter maestri on 2018-01-06 12:35:57 | Question:
Is their a minimum temperature below which I should not apply collar floor paint ? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, substrate and air temperature should be above 10°C.
Owen on 2017-09-27 01:45:05 | Question:
What sealant/primer do you recommend to use prior to the application of this paint on fully cured but previously untreated concrete? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
All surfaces should be clean, dry, sound and free from contaminants. Concrete - power floated, granolithic and smooth surfaces should be roughened first to provide a good "key" for the paint. This can be done mechanically by abrading or blasting, or chemically using Coo-Var Acid Etch. These processes will have the advantage in addition to preparing the surface of also removing dirt and laitance. New concrete must be allowed to cure thoroughly which can take up to 3 months. To prime prepared, bare concrete use Coo-Var Floor Paint thinned 10% or Coo-Var Alkali Resisting Primer.
alec newman on 2017-07-03 21:35:35 | Question:
Would this paint be alright on an exterior concrete path which has been previously painted. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Suitable for indoor and outdoor use, Coo-Var Floor Paint is compatible over most previous coatings and gives an off gloss finish.
mike on 2016-11-18 17:00:08 | Question:
If i was to remove the paint with a sander would the dust be toxic! |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Any dust created wouldn't be toxic but we would always recommended wearing suitable PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) - i.e. face mask, gloves, goggles, etc. whilst carrying out preparation works.
