Coo-Var Anti-Condensation Paint
Coo-Var Anti-Condensation Paint is a specially formulated solution designed to tackle issues of condensation in areas prone to dampness. The single-pack paint creates a protective barrier that not only prevents moisture accumulation but also reduces the growth of mould and mildew, thanks to its integrated biocidal properties.
Application Areas
Ideal for use in environments where condensation is a common problem, this paint can be applied to walls and ceilings in kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms. It is particularly effective in spaces with poor ventilation, helping to maintain a dry, clean appearance over time.
Application Instructions
- Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from grease and contaminants before application.
- Use a brush or roller for best results, applying the paint in thin, even coats.
- Do not apply the paint in temperatures below 10°C, as this can affect drying time and performance.
- Allow a minimum of 4 hours between coats. For best results, apply two full coats.
- After application, clean tools and brushes with water.
It is recommended to overcoat the final layer with emulsion paints if a different finish is desired. Always refer to the downloadable data sheet for more detailed application guidelines.
Restrictions and Limitations
This paint should not be applied on surfaces that are continuously wet or in areas exposed to direct water contact. Do not use below 10°C or in environments with high humidity during application, as this may prevent proper curing. Additionally, avoid applying on surfaces that require frequent cleaning with harsh chemicals.
Recommended Products
For surfaces requiring a primer, consider using Coo-Var All Metals Primer, which ensures optimal adhesion and durability. If additional mould protection is required, treat surfaces with a proprietary mould remover before painting.
Health and Safety
It is important to use the paint in well-ventilated areas and avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of accidental exposure, follow the safety instructions provided on the label.

Question about the product
Robert on 2023-01-29 08:29:54 | Question:
Can this be used on the inside of a "plastic" Clarke Instant Garage? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately we do not have a product we can recommend for reducing condensation to the instant garage.
Lisa on 2021-10-05 09:58:50 | Question:
Hi, I have a patch on my staircase (outside wall) that gets condensation on it when we have heating on. I’ve recently painted it with f&b that has 7% sheen the condensation didn’t appear before we painted. Would this work and then repaint over it or would it just do the same after f&b top coat? Thank you. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This paint is suitable for application to walls to address condensation and can be over painted with emulsion paints. The level of condensation will determine if this will be sucessful, increasing airflow and or addressing the cause would also aid this.
Paul Sowden on 2020-07-06 08:09:01 | Question:
Hi, I am building a garden room and am thinking of cladding the ceiling with corrugated galvanised sheets. If I applied a primer and this on top would it prevent condensation on the ceiling? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
The paint will reduce condensation given the correct environment, assuming the glavanized steel is clean, dry and prepared as detailed in the Technical Data sheet you will require Coo-Var Water Based All Metals Primer prior to application.

donna cuthbert on 2018-07-10 12:40:15 | Question:
Can anti condensation paint be wall papered over? Thanks. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, but be sure to allow Coo-Var Anti-Condensation Paint to thoroughly dry (5 - 7 days @ 20°C) before applying the wallpaper.
Alison King on 2018-07-04 18:43:08 | Question:
I have condensation marks on a wallpapered ceiling. Can I use the product to paint over the wallpaper? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
These stains on the wallpaper could be either mould or water staining. Kill and clean any black mould with a fungicidal wash such as Zinsser Mould Killer & Remover. Allow to dry then prime the surface with Coo-Var Shellac Prime-All, then apply 2 - 3 coats of Coo-Var Anti-Condensation Paint.
gary on 2018-02-07 13:26:17 | Question:
hi, would this be suitable for a steal boat engine room,? will it stand up to oil and grease like bilge paint? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Coo-Var Anti-Condensation Paint is water based and does not contain any anti-corrosive pigments or additives. To apply to steel it would need to be primed first with an anti-corrosive metal primer. If Coo-Var Anti-Condensation Paint was applied after this it could be finally over-coated with Teamac Bilge Paint to get the required oil and grease resistance.
Ian Cutler on 2017-08-09 14:04:14 | Question:
I live in a Cobb constructed cottage with I an area of mould and damp on an exterior wall......being Cobb it is better that the wall breaths so will I be able to use this product, or any similar, and then over paint with a light emulsion? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We would recommend Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Matt for this as it is breathable and has good anti mould properties as well. Treat the mould first then apply 2 coats of the Allcoat.
