Substrates
- HMG PVC17 for application to most suitably prepared hard plastics, PVCu, powder coated, and other factory finished cladding, PVC curtains and many other plastic substrates
- New curtains and other flexible substrates will require airing for at least 7 days prior to coating, ensuring any trapped plasticisers can escape, failure may result in poor adhesion and premature failure of coatings
- Not suitable for coating areas incorporating draught seals and gaskets or over bitumen or chlorinated rubber coatings
Application Climate
- Substrate temperature should be 5⁰C or above for application and during cure, and a minimum of 3⁰C above the dew point
- Adequate dry air ventilation should be supplied during drying
Application Information
- Thinning should only take place after material is thoroughly mixed
- Application and use should always conform with the codes of practice described in BS 6150 and BS 5493
Surface Preparation
- Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and free from grease, oils, dust and other contamination prior to application
- Thoroughly clean and degrease using suitable HMG Prep Clean 2805 for new or HMG 2806 for old or aged substrates
General Specification
- Clean to remove all loose debris and other contamination
- Thoroughly clean and degrease using suitable HMG Prep Clean – 2805 for use on new substrates, 2806 for old or aged
- Apply by cloth and quickly remove using clean lint free cloth
- Repeat until surface is clean and free from all deposits (grease, oil, silicone)
- Replace cloths regularly to ensure that contamination is not re-applied to the surface
- Lightly abrade using Scotch-Brite pad to provide key, wipe with lint free cloth to remove loose dust prior to application
Painting existing coatings (powder coated)
- Always check compatibility of new and old coatings prior to full application
- Check all existing coatings are well adhered with all loose and failed material removed back to firm with all edges well feathered
- Degrease using suitable HMG Prep Clean
- Remove any rust back to clean metallic appearance, spot prime with suitable HMG Primer or HMG Ferrozinc Rust Convertor
- Lightly abrade existing coatings to provide key, wipe with lint free cloth to remove loose dust
Application
- A light dusting should then be sprayed on to the plastic to check that all contaminants have been removed
- Apply 2 coats via brush or compliant spray gun to give full and even coverage
- Allow a flash off time of 10-15 mins between coats
- Film build should not exceed 35 microns DFT
- The product will be touch dry in around 10-15 mins, hard dry after 45-60 minutes depending on ambient atmosphere
- Windows and doors should be left open as long as possible, to allow the coating to fully cure
- HMG recommend PVC Pro for painting uPVC windows and doors

- Suitable respiratory equipment should be worn when spraying
- Contaminated rags, spray booth filters or other substrates should be segregated from other chemical waste, soaked with water or disposed of in a non-combustible container with tight fitting lid
