HMG C71 Speedline is a high quality, single pack, synthetic alkyd enamel suitable for brushing or spraying. Offers fast surface drying, good through drying (even in thick films), and a hard, tough finish, with minimal yellowing even at high temperature - ideal for machinery, appliance and agricultural projects.

- These values are a guide only and are not to be used as specifications
- Film thickness will vary depending on actual use and specification
- Great care should be taken to achieve the dft stated in the agreed specification and to avoid areas of excessively low or high thickness

Surface Preparation
Bare Substrates:
- New Galvanised Steel to be degreased using suitable:
- Application of HMG Mordant Wash prior to application of HMG Etch Primer and suitable HMG Primer
- Aged Galvanised to be degreased using:
- HMG Prep Clean 2802 Degreaser
- HMG Prep Clean 2803 Degreaser
- or HMG Prep Clean 2804 Degreaser
- and lightly abraded prior to application of suitable HMG Primer
- Aluminium to be degreased using:
- HMG Prep Clean 2802 Degreaser
- HMG Prep Clean 2803 Degreaser
- or HMG Prep Clean 2804 Degreaser
- abrade with P180 – P320, prior to application of suitable HMG Etch Primer and suitable HMG Primer
- Mild Steel remove millscale and thoroughly degrease using:
- HMG Prep Clean 2802 Degreaser
- HMG Prep Clean 2803 Degreaser
- or HMG Prep Clean 2804 Degreaser
- abrade with P80 – P180 if necessary, before applying suitable HMG Primer
- Shot Blasted Steel remove all traces of blast grit/sand before applying suitable HMG Primer
Previously painted/General Maintenance:
- High pressure wash to remove all loose debris and poorly adhered existing coatings to remove salts and other contaminants
- Degrease using suitable HMG Prep Clean 2800 to remove grease and oils not removed with pressure washing alone
- Remove all loose and failed coatings back to firm, wire brush to remove rust and corrosion to clean metallic appearance
- All edges to be firm and well feathered
- Abrade to promote good adhesion
- Wipe over with degreaser to remove loose debris from abrasion
- Substrate to be clean, free of grease, oils, dust and completely dry prior to application
Application
- Read and follow Safety Data Sheet, Product Information Sheet, and label instructions
- Stir paint thoroughly before use
- Always use the same batch number on the same job
- Check colour and sheen, HMG will not accept any discrepancies arising after use
- Filter the product immediately before use
- Reduce emissions and maintain quality by replacing tin lid after use
Substrates:
- C71 Speedline is suitable for use on all properly cleaned and prepared bare ferrous and non-ferrous metals and most previously coated metals
- Previous coatings should be fully cured and prepared, test patch is recommended to check compatibility
- Previously painted timber should be dry with all coatings sound and fully adhered
- Failed previous coatings should be removed back to firm well feathered edge
- Suitable primer is recommended for use over aluminium and new galvanised metals
- Rusted steel to be suitably prepared and anti-corrosive primer applied prior to C71
- Not for application over chlorinated rubber or bitumen coatings
Application Climate:
- Substrate temperature should be 5⁰C or above for application and during cure, and a minimum of 3⁰C above the dew point
- Adequate dry air ventilation should be supplied during drying
Application Information:
- Thinning should only take place after material is thoroughly mixed
- Application and use should always conform with the codes of practice described in BS 6150 and BS 5493
Surface Preparation:
- Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and free from grease, oils, dust and other contamination prior to application
- Thoroughly degrease using suitable HMG degreaser and where applicable, abrade to remove rust and promote good adhesion
- For best results and optimum corrosion protection mild steel should be blast cleaned to Sa2.5

- Suitable respiratory equipment should be worn when spraying
- Contaminated rags, spray booth filters or other substrates should be segregated from other chemical waste, soaked with water and disposed of in a noncombustible container with a tight fitting lid
