Question about the product
Daniele Buonincontri on 2024-10-11 11:39:26 | Question:
Hello, we have some pipework of SS304 as drainage for a distillery and I was wondering if it would be necessary to paint the outside of the pipework to protect it from corrosion. The pipework will be under the concrete and soil. Could you please advise if the Rust-oleum paint 750 would do the work or if it's only costly and time consuming. Temperature of the discharge liquid will be 100 degrees. We are located in Greece. Kind Regards |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for your enquiry, unfortunately we don't offer shipping outside of the UK so wouldn't be able to assist on this occasion.
Patrick Humphrys on 2024-08-14 16:07:17 | Question:
Will this paint adhere to steel and brass |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, for application to brass this product isn't suitable. Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C is intended to be applied on bare or slightly rusted metal surfaces, or well pre-treated coated surfaces such as barbecues, boiler fittings, hot air cannons, exhausts, etc. Assuming the steel is pre-treated coated, bare or slightly rusted, you could consider this product for these areas.
Orok on 2024-07-01 10:40:42 | Question:
please can i have this paint ( Rust Oleum 750⁰C supplied to Nigeria). |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for your enquiry, I'm afraid we only offer UK Mainland delivery, and also don't offer exporting.
Cyrus on 2024-02-09 14:43:30 | Question:
Can this paint be applied directly to bare copper heating pipes? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming you are looking to paint domestic internal heating pipes, the copper is bare, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet you could consider Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 followed by Zinsser AllCoat Exterior (Water Based) This can be mixed to many RAL, NCS or BS colours in a matt, satin or gloss finish.
Danny Thomas on 2023-05-30 18:59:11 | Question:
I have a client who has a steel ridge beam built into a live chimney breast with the edge of the steel exposed to the flue/fire. The building regulations requests masonry between the exposed steel to protect it from heat exposure that may cause expansion and deflection over a number of years. Would your product be adequate for this application and continued exposure to heat permanently, or would I need to be re-applied after a number of years? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for the enquiry, plesae can you provide more information and pictures of the area to [email protected] so we can assist with a recommendation.
Mark on 2023-02-06 13:21:02 | Question:
Hi, I've recently purchased a wood cook stove and am currently servicing/ cleaning it. The venting around the oven was originally galvanised sheet metal. However, due to the incorrect materials being burnt by the previous owners much of the galvanising has burnt off, or been damaged by the corrosive effects of the creosote created by the incorrect materials being burnt. I'm looking for a coating to seal/ protect the existing sheet steel venting where it's no longer galvanised and wondered if the Rustoleum Heat resisting paint 750c would be suitable. The maximum indicated temperature shown on the oven door's thermometer is 500c so it's possible that the venting's temperature may get a little hotter than this. I would like to use the enamel for the steel which vents around the oven of the wood stove (NOT the internal part of the oven where food will be placed) and the stove will be kept indoors. Thanks. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the bare steel area to be painted is internal or in a sheltered outdoor location, it is not exposed to direct flame contact, it is not exposed to a long term dry heat of over 600°C, it is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this could be used. Please note after application the product should be left for 3 hours at room temperature, then heated up to 150°C in stages increasing 50°C per hour. Then allowed to cool for 24 hours to fully cure.
Fleur on 2022-05-31 21:20:30 | Question:
Can I use this to paint economy 7 heaters, if yes what pre treatment do they require, how much would I need to do 1 large heater that's in a lounge/kitchen area of a Flat, and forsightly rusted grills on the heaters do I sand them down first? Thanks. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
While this could be used assuming the heaters are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we would recommend Coo-var Radiator Enamel for this application. This is water based and will be lower odour. After each application allow to dry for one hour, then stove with the radiator at full heat (70 deg C) for one hour to ensure drying.
Shahid on 2022-02-05 14:55:24 | Question:
Hi, is this suitable for painting brake calipers? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, this paint is suitable for application on substrates in an internal or a sheltered outdoor environment.
Sydney on 2021-10-18 22:36:37 | Question:
I am doing a group project for UTSA and we are looking to use a steel structure for our site. We are trying too what we can put on our structure to allow occupiers of the space to sit comfortably with out burning themselves in high temperature. I was wondering if the heat resistant products would be good to use or if that is not what its used for. I'm just trying gain clarity to take back to my group. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for the enquiry , unfortunately we do not have a product to recommend for this application.

John on 2021-05-06 08:33:39 | Question:
Would this paint be suitable for use on bare cast iron or stainlessteel? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the cast iron is clean, dry, sound and prepard as detailed in the Technical Data Sheet this can be used. Stainless steel would need to be abraded first to aid adhesion, the product will then withstand Standard 600°C (dry heat) / Short term peak 750°C (dry heat).
Jason on 2020-07-09 22:04:34 | Question:
Hi. I am looking to touch up my motorbike engine. Is this paint waterproof, ie will it stand up to the elements? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This paint is intended for small maintenance jobs or for touch-up, providing heat resistance up to 750°C (= 1380°F) dry heat (short term peak resistance) in sheltered or interior environments - it does not provide any corrosion protection.
Ian on 2020-05-25 13:10:22 | Question:
I have a shed with a sheet metal roof covering over a wood roof. The shed is sited near to the combo boiler exhaust. Would Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant 750 be suitable for protecting the shed roof from the hot exhaust from the combo boiler exhaust vent? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming application is to the underside of the roofing sheet and fire protection is not a requirement. If the substrate is bare steel or previously pretreated with a heat resistant coating, sound, dry and abraded, this product would resist heat upto 650°C in this application.
Viks on 2020-03-27 17:29:52 | Question:
Hey I have a rusty chimnea and rusty bbq can I use this paint directly on top of the rust or do I need to brush it off first? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
All rust would need to be cleaned off by suitable mechanical means prior to application.
George on 2020-01-15 12:12:56 | Question:
I want to paint an aluminium heat shield surrounding a woodburner. Would this paint be suitable? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Presuming the aluminium is smooth, providing you abrade the surface slightly before application, Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C would be perfectly fine.
Pierre Smit on 2019-10-28 09:42:57 | Question:
Is this product suitable for the painting of a boiler feed tank where the temperature would be less that 200°F. If not, what type of product would you suggest? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No it wouldn't but as 200F is only 90°C, assuming mild steel and the application to take place onsite with Sa 2.5 or St 3 preparation in no more than a C4 environment you could use PPG SigmaCover 350 (2 coats at 100 microns DFT per coat) followed by PPG SigmaDur 550 in the colour of your choice.
simon on 2019-08-27 15:33:50 | Question:

Stuart Hyslop on 2019-08-22 15:34:40 | Question:
You mentioned in response to a question on high temperature curing that: "Full hardness is achieved 24 hours after the minimum service temp of 150°C is reached. Gradually heat the coating to 150°C (max. 50°C/hour)". Do you have any advice on how to do this practically? Im am planning on using for a domestic DIY project. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Its usually achieved by putting the painted item into use.
Rachelle on 2019-04-15 14:59:13 | Question:
Hi, Would this product be suitable to use on the brass surrounding a gas fire! |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C is intended to be applied on new, bright or shot-blasted steel or well pre-treated coated surfaces such as barbecues, boiler fittings, hot air cannons, exhausts, etc. We have more information on painting areas surrounding fires on our blog post: Painting the Walls around a Fireplace or Multi Fuel Stove.

Mark Elliott on 2019-01-10 12:45:47 | Question:
I was wondering if this is suitable to be used to paint storage heaters ? If not, can you advise me on which paint can be used ? Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C is a matt finish only available in Black or Aluminium colours. Blackfriar Quick Drying Radiator Paint will take a temperature up to 150°C and is available in a white semi-gloss finish. As we don’t know what actual surface temperature the storage heater will get up to we can’t say for sure if the paint will be OK on any particular storage heater, it could depend on the model, type etc. You will need to check with them manufacturer to find out what the surface temperature of their particular heater will get to during use. If it is below 150°C then Blackfriar Quick Drying Radiator Paint could be used.
caroline mackrory on 2019-01-09 17:11:34 | Question:
Please can you advise whether your heat resistant BBQ spray paint is suitable for use inside a domestic oven (to seal/protect bare metal exposed by damaged enamel). |

We can confirm it would NOT be suitable for this application.
brett on 2018-11-29 12:45:46 | Question:
Can this be applied via spray gun |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C can only be applied by brush or roller. Blackfriar High-Heat Resistant Paint may be applied by spray. We offer many other heat resistant paints that can be applied by spray, if you have a specific substrate, temperature, environment, etc. then please contact our Technical Team on 0113 2455450 (opt. 2) or [email protected] with your requirements and they will be able to advise you on the best suited product for your application.
Sara on 2018-11-26 21:57:37 | Question:
I have a real fire and want to paint the marble hearth and backing and metal surround which is brass. Would this paint be suitable. |
Stewart on 2018-11-24 14:52:00 | Question:
Could this be used to paint cast iron pan rests on a hob? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C is intended primarily as an industrial coating, due to this fact we would not recommend its use on your project as it has not been tested for such use nor has it been submitted for such approval.
Guillem on 2018-10-09 11:03:24 | Question:
Hello, I just ordered a Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C to paint the exhaust of my van, it's a bit rusty already so I would like to protect it. Is it ok? I just read the datasheet (I know a bit to late) and I'm not sure if it's suitable . It says applications for for applications indoors or in a sheltered outdoor environment so is why I'm not sure. Can you please confirm if it's ok? If not I'd like to cancel the order. Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C provides high heat resistance (in excess of 100°C), and in such environments (heavier duty) corrosion is not normally envisaged. So in that respect it may not resist corrosion for longer periods as we imagine an exhaust is likely to be subjected to moisture and salts from the roads, both of which will encourage corrosion. However, products which will offer better corrosion protection may well fail as a result of the high heat exposure – depending on what temperatures will actually be present on the exhaust.
Mai Van Dang company on 2018-09-05 03:51:01 | Question:
I need a black paint for painting motorcycle exhaust, with a drying temperature of 250 to 280 degrees and a minimum of 550 degrees without paint damage. Please give me more information. Thanks! |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Full hardness is achieved 24 hours after the minimum service temp of 150°C is reached. Gradually heat the coating to 150°C (max. 50°C/hour). The cured coating will then have a heat resistance of standard 600°C (dry heat) / Short term peak 750°C (dry heat).
Stewart on 2018-06-05 18:08:55 | Question:
Can I paint the housing of an already painted 300W fresnel light with this? (I want to convert my Blue ARRI lights to Black: http://www.arri.com/lighting/tungsten/arri_fresnel_tungsten/arri_300_plus/) |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
From the link provided it appears these are manufactured using non-ferrous metals, and presumably the blue appearance is achieved with an (unknown) coating type. So, as long as this surface was degreased and lightly abraded, we would expect Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C to be suitable.
Clive Bishop on 2018-04-30 16:53:10 | Question:
Have you a paint that I can use inside a cast iron kettle? The original enamel has chipped, I have treated the rust with a phosferic acid. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, we don't have any products suitable for this application.
Toby Gorwood on 2018-04-26 09:24:05 | Question:
Can I use this inside a fireplace (on masonary) |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the 'masonry' is bare and not previously painted, yes the Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C could technically be applied, however it won't be the most decorative finish as it is a solvent based product intended for application to metal.
Eric on 2018-04-17 17:01:22 | Question:
Most paints like this I have found require curing at a high temperature before use. Is that required here? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Full hardness is achieved 24 hours after the minimum service temp of 150°C is reached. Gradually heat the coating to 150°C (max. 50°C/hour)
kev on 2018-03-31 09:42:10 | Question:

James Benn on 2017-12-20 05:30:15 | Question:
Hi was wondering if this would mix with a possible thinner to allow to spray threw a gun. Cheers |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C can only be applied by brush or roller and must not be thinned. Blackfriar High-Heat Resistant Paint may be applied by spray, but again must not be thinned.
carol inman on 2017-09-20 19:31:26 | Question:
Rustoleum 750 degree will This be ok for multifuel burner casing Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
As long as it is bare steel, does not exceed continuous temperatures up to 650°C (peak temperatures up to 750°C) and is not in direct contact with flames. Test a small area first to be sure of compatibility and finish.

Carolyne Bell on 2017-02-20 18:16:33 | Question:
I have a very rusty metal chiminea, would this be suitable and will it help to stop rusting in the future |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C is suitable for indoor or sheltered outdoor environments. The rusted surface will need to be thoroughly prepared to remove all loose and flaking rust and ensure a clean, dry surface to paint. Apply 2-3 coats of Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C, this will help with the future protection of the chimnea to a degree but its primary function is not to be a corrosion resistant coating but to withstand high temperatures.
Rachel mcadams on 2016-10-01 18:11:28 | Question:
Hi I'm looking to tiles on a fire surround and hearth. Would your heat resistant paint be appropriate? Would it require any specific primer? We currently use the open fire. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C would not be suitable but Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 followed by Zinsser Perma-White Interior would be. We assume the areas you will be painting won't get too hot (not above 80-90°C). This system would provide a non-yellowing finish and if any sparks land on the painted surface they will mark the paint but it won’t catch light.
Richard Taberner on 2016-04-24 15:14:43 | Question:
Hi, I am looking for a heat resistant paint that I can use on my kettle drum BBQ. It seems most paints need to be cured after application. I cannot do this because the BBQ is too large. Do you have a paint I can use that does not need curing or can you advise how I might treat the item after painting.
Thanks in advance
|
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Most heat resistant paints will have reduced durability until they have been put into service for the first time. Most products like Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C don't need any special treatment to be carried out to cure them they just simply need to be put into use. So in your instance what the products are explaining is that you might find the paint can be easily marked or scratched until after the first use of the BBQ. Using the BBQ for the first time will 'cure' the paint and increase the paints durability.
