Ashley on 2024-04-08 10:44:21 | Question:
The floor area that I want to cover is 3 x 3m. So a 5L tin will cover as stated. The floor has some slight imperfections. How thick is the covering of a 5L tin, so that it will self level? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for your enquiry. This product has a theoretical consumption rate of 9m2/litre at 40 microns DFT (Dry-Film Thickness), with the recommended two coat application this would be a total of 80 Microns DFT.
James on 2023-08-13 09:42:56 | Question:
How many litres would I need for two coats on a single garage floor? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This would depend on how large the area is you need to cover. The coverage rate of this product is 9m² per litre per coat. In the case of roller application it can be necessary to apply 2 coats.
Karla on 2022-07-31 22:19:21 | Question:
Would this be ok ok a terracotta tiled floor?? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the terracotta tiled floor is porous, only subjected to foot traffic, it is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this could be used.
robert young on 2022-03-08 14:54:56 | Question:
I am looking to paint my garage floor with Rust-Oleum 5200 Epoxyshield Ultra. As in most garages, the majority of the concrete floor is internal. However about 30cm of it protudes externally under the garage door, so it is permanently external. Can i use the 5200, with 5220 sealer, on this portion as well as on the internal garage floor? Is there anything suitable to apply on top of the 5200 if needed, or is the 5200 still OK in external as well as internal? Many thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes these products can be applied to concrete internally or externally. There is not a topcoat we can recommend to over paint this with.
John Knight on 2021-12-15 15:55:16 | Question:
Going to put this on my garage floor, approximately 30 years old. do I need to put a sealer on first or is it ok to apply this only. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the garage floor is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet, in most circumstances grinding the floor or acid etching the concrete will be required prior to application, then Rust-Oleum 5220 Epoxyshield Sealer should be applied prior to application of the floor paint.
Jason on 2021-02-28 15:49:12 | Question:
Can I use the RUST-OLEUM EPOXYSHIELD DECORATIVE FLAKES with this paint?.Also, can you apply this paint with a brush? Thank you. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Epoxyshield Decorative Flakes are designed for use with 2 pack epoxy coatings such as the Rust-Oleum Garage Floor Kit or Rust-Oleum 5300 Epoxyshield Maxx. It is likely that the paint film will be too thin if using 5200 Epoxyshield Ultra to get a good hold of the flakes and ensure they stay in place. Rust-Oleum 5200 Epoxyshield Ultra can be applied with brush or roller.
oliver on 2019-09-18 17:25:53 | Question:
can this be used on setcrete high performance self levelling compound. This SLC is designed as a wear surface. What primer would I use in conjunction with the SLC and Epoxy Ultra? Many Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
If the self levelling product you have used can be left as a wearing surface and the manufacturer of the product is happy for it to be coated with single pack water-based floor coatings (epoxy-modified acrylic) then yes Rust-Oleum 5200 Epoxyshield Ultra could be used. The data sheet for Rust-Oleum 5200 Epoxyshield Ultra states the followin under preparation; Remove oil, grease and all other contaminants with Rust-Oleum Epoxyshield Cleaner / Degreaser in combination with high pressure cleaning. Allow new concrete to set for at least 30 days before applying a coating. Remove laitance, loose and damaged concrete by sandblasting or etching with Rust-Oleum Mathys 108 Surfa Etch Solution. Repair all holes and cracks with EpoxyShield concrete repair products. Always pre-treat absorbent, porous surfaces with Rust-Oleum 5220 Epoxyshield Sealer. Roughen or blast well-sealed and smooth concrete and treat withRust-Oleum 5220 Epoxyshield Sealer or apply a coat Rust-Oleum 3333 Super Adhesion Primer. Roughen still-intact floor coatings to ensure good adherence. Remove poorly adhering old coatings with wire brush and sandpaper. During application the surface must be clean and dry.
Laura on 2019-02-28 18:08:14 | Question: I used one cost of the rustoleum 5200 Epoxy sealer last year on my concrete floor. Is it Ok to now use this epoxy paint to paint over it. Even though the sealer was put on about 8 months ago. I have cleaned the floor thoroughly. Will it still work well or do I need to grind it back to the original concrete & start from scratch? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Rust-Oleum 5220 Epoxyshield Sealer is recommended to prime/seal floors before Rust-Oleum 5200 Epoxyshield Ultra so you will not need to remove it. Before applying Rust-Oleum 5200 Epoxyshield Ultra, ensure the floor is clean, dry and lightly sand the Rust-Oleum 5220 Epoxyshield Sealer if necessary to remove any gloss and provide a key.
Olly on 2018-11-12 22:38:08 | Question: I have a concrete floor slab, flat but only hand smoothed. Is the sealer/primer a necessity? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Yes, the data sheet states 'Always pre-treat absorbent, porous surfaces with Rust-Oleum 5220 Epoxyshield Sealer.'
Harriet wright on 2018-11-07 09:15:58 | Question: Would thus paint be suitable for use on floorboards in a bedroom and do you need to use a primer with it as old floorboards are currently bare wood. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Rust-Oleum 5200 Epoxyshield Ultra is recommended for concrete surfaces, for domestic floorboards customers have previously used Blackfriar Professional Acrylic Floor Paint. Bare surfaces require a sealer (Blackfriar Professional Water Based Floor Sealer or for small areas dilute Blackfriar Professional Acrylic Floor Paint with 10% water), then apply 2 coats of the floor paint as recommended.
Jonty on 2018-05-01 09:50:26 | Question: Can I use this rust-eleum 5200 to put over a pre existing vinyl floor? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: No.
Barbara Smart on 2017-09-06 13:41:36 | Question: Is the water based rust oleum 5200 epoxyshiled ultra a low odour paint?
Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Being water based, when used in the intended industrial/commercial environments Rust-Oleum 5200 Epoxyshield Ultra is indeed a low odour paint. Please note however this does not mean a NO odour paint.
Vladimira Kezele on 2017-03-17 21:31:43 | Question: Can Epoxyshield 5200 Ultra be used for covering o an old concrete path around the house (outside)?
If not, what would you recommend for outside old concrete? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Rust-Oleum Tarmacoat has a larger colour range and would be more suited to this type of external application.
Lisa Buckland on 2015-08-04 08:50:36 | Question: Can Rust-Oleum 5200 Epoxyshield Ultra be used on wooden floorboards in a kitchen? |
