questions Abz on 2023-01-27 03:37:50
Question:

Would this paint work on glavanised roller shutters? Would wire brush and sand them down, and use t wash and apply metal primer? Thanks

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Assuming the galvanised shutters have been t washed, they are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend that they are primed first with Rust-Oleum 569/580 QD Metal Primer prior to application of Rust-Oleum 7500 Alkythane.

Please note that any paint applied will wear on the joints and where the shutters roll around the drum.

Alrernatively if t-washing is not possible, the galvanised doors are weathered, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet you could prime them with Rust-Oleum 3202 Galvinoleum Primer followed by Rust-Oleum 7500 Alkythane.

This is available mixed to many RAL, NCS or BS colours in a satin or gloss finish.

questions Adey on 2022-05-23 12:22:45
Question:

Rust-Oleum 7500 Alkythane Can this be used with a sprayer? If so would it need to be thinned?

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Yes the product can be applied by brush, roller or spray.

For airless spray application this can be thinned upto 20% with Rust-Oleum Thinner 641.

For air atomised spray application this can be thinned 10 to 30% with Rust-Oleum Thinner 641.

questions Helen Lea Wright on 2022-03-06 13:49:40
Question:

Can I paint shower floor tiles with this product?

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Unfortunately no, this product is not suitable for this application.

Assuming the tiles are glazed, clean ,dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend Smartkote Protectakote Clear Primer Treatment followed by Smartkote Safekote.

This is a bare foot friendly anti-slip coating available in clear or range of colours in a gloss finish.

questions Peter Concannon on 2019-09-03 12:50:33
Question:

IS YOUR PRODUCT SUITABLE TO APPLY ON NEW GALVANISED SURFACE OR WHAT PRIMER WOULD YOU RECOMMEND

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Remove grease, oil and all other surface contaminations by cleaning in combination with Rust-Oleum Mathys ND14 Cleaner Degreaser. Remove salts, 'white rust', etc., by washing with Rust-Oleum Mathys 108 Surfa Etch Solution. Then prime with Rust-Oleum 3202 Galvinoleum Primer before finishing with Rust-Oleum 7500 Alkythane.

questions Sue on 2019-06-18 14:46:13
Question:

Which is more hard wearing, CombiColor or Alkythane? Any other differences to consider? I'm looking at hard wearing paint for a narrowboat where ropes will slide along the roof edge, not to mention scrapes when mooring, etc. Thanks

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Rust-Oleum CombiColor and Rust-Oleum 7500 Alkythane would have similar performance in this situation, if you wish to consider something harder wearing you would need to look at Rust-Oleum 9200 Rust-O-Thane or Rust-Oleum 9600 Rust-O-Thane Polyurethane.

questions Peter Davies on 2019-05-17 14:14:05
Question:

When applying rust oleum 7500 over an existing unidentified coating, do I need a primer. the existing surface is sound but has been hand painted a long time ago and will need abrading in places to remove runs.

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

The data sheet states the following preparation;

Remove oil, grease and all other contamination by alkaline or high pressure (steam) cleaning in combination with appropriate detergents. Remove rust scale, loose mill scale, loose rust and loose coatings by scraping and wire brushing to St 2/3 (ISO 8501-1 : 1988), blast cleaning to Sa 2½ (ISO 8501-1 : 1988) or sanding, followed by priming with the recommended Rust-Oleum Primers. Sand previous coatings in good condition to provide a key for adhesion and check compatibility. The surface must be clean and dry during application.

questions Davey Chambers on 2019-05-02 09:15:50
Question:

Can you provide pan-tone reference numbers for your paint colours? Digital display resolutions between different devices won't provide an accurate representation of the actual product. I can see about 6 different greys that all display the same. Thanks Davey

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

You are correct that colours can vary screen to screen due to resolution settings and monitor quality. We pressume you have a physical Pantone colour chart which is why you want to go by these references but unfortunately RAL and BS colours do not directly corrolate with Pantone shades. We can produce Rust-Oleum 7500 Alkythane in nearly any RAL, BS, NCS, and many other paint colour ranges so we would suggest posting you a colour chart if you can provide an address to our sales team.
