Question about the product
Philip rawson on 2021-12-13 20:01:08 | Question:
I have a park home 40x20 and the metal frames have rusted on them.Is there a product that will just spray direct on the rust as I’m 76yrs I don’t think I could manage to go under twice.thank you. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product is suitable for airless spray application, but any rust must be removed and the surface of the metal prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet prior to application of a minimum of 2 coats of the paint. This paint is suitable for application at temperatures done to 8°C minimum, if you are looking to paint this structure over the winter you could consider the solvent based version which is suitable for application down to 0°C called Rust-Oleum Mathys Noxyde Pegarust.
Alan Robinson on 2019-05-19 12:33:46 | Question:
Hi there. Would this require an airless spraygun? Thank you. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, apply undiluted using a 13 - 17 Nozzle / Pressure: min. 170 bars. Nozzle and pressure can vary depending on the type of substrate, equipment and the experience of the applicator.
Debbie Scarrow on 2019-01-02 15:23:06 | Question:
Is Noxyd suitable for painting over existing Durbar chequerplate (walkway floorplate) and steel joists - presumed original painted with Red Oxide Primer around 40 years ago. What preparation would be necessary? Do you carry out paint analysis on existing decorations to ensure compatibility? Thank you. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Mathys Noxyde cannot be used as a floor coating so for the chequer plate we would suggest something like Rust-Oleum 9200 Rust-O-Thane instead. Rust-Oleum Mathys Noxyde should be fine for the steel joists assuming these aren't walked on. Paint analysis normally wouldn't be required for Noxyde but we do recommend a test area is carried out prior to full application to ensure compatibility, adhesion, appearance, etc. If you would like to provide some more information about the project and your requirements we can be more specific or arrange a site visit if necessary.
Rhia Brown on 2018-12-28 22:39:29 | Question:
Hi is there a product I can use on the Noxyde to make it a gloss finish? Many Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Mathys Noxyde is recoatable after 24 hours with itself, Coating PRT, high gloss alkyd enamels, high and satin gloss acrylic dispersion paints. Alternatively you could instead use Rust-Oleum Pegarust instead of Noxyde if this is an option as this comes in a gloss finish as standard.
Michael on 2018-12-21 19:31:56 | Question:
Would this be suitable for painting a shipping container |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes. | |
Ste kempster on 2018-12-03 12:25:50 | Question:
Hi can you mix colours as I need some colours that aren't on the colour list. As they are for a nursery I need pink blue and green which are colours on their signage. Also what area does the 20kg tins cover for a spray application. Many thanks ste |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Mathys Noxyde is only available in the standard colours shown unless you require more than 100kg of each colour at which point it can be manufactured to most RAL and BS colours on a 2 - 3 week lead time. Rust-Oleum Mathys Metal Cladding Primer and Rust-Oleum Mathys Metal Cladding Topcoat may be of interest for your project and can be mixed individually to most RAL, BS, NCS and bespoke colours.
Darren Kent on 2018-07-13 12:15:01 | Question:
Hello, is this product suitable for painting a steel pick up bed on a 4x4 & what type of finish i.e gloss, matt, satin etc. Kind regards Darren |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, we would instead recommend Smartkote Protectakote UVR for this application.
Keith porter on 2017-03-04 10:44:50 | Question:
Is your Noxyde paint suitable for use on acid primed aluminium greenhouse ? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
By 'acid prime' we are assuming you've used some sort of single pack, acid etch primer. We'd need a copy of the Technical Data sheet to confirm potential compatibility but subject to it being acceptable Rust-Oleum Mathys Noxyde is designed for airless spray application, if you intend to apply by brush or roller then Rust-Oleum Mathys Noxyde Peganox would be more suited.

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Debbie C on 2016-09-12 11:17:12 | Question:
Can this be painted onto Plastisol coating on roof cladding? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, Rust-Oleum Mathys Noxyde is ideally suited to this application. It can be applied directly to correctly cleaned and preparated Plastisol Colorcoat HP200 and HPS200 Metal Cladding. HP200 is easily recognised by its classic ‘leathery’ surface texture and has been available since 1987, HPS200 has been available from 1998 and has a ‘dimpled’ surface texture and looks quite different from the traditional ‘leathergrain’ Plastisol. Other metal cladding types such as PVDF, PVF2, Polyester, Polyurethane, Power Coating, etc. require special consideration and in most instances will require a primer coat prior to applicaiton. These surfaces are usually easily recognisable by their ‘smooth’ appearance, however due to the nature of these cladding types we ALWAYS recommend our Technical Department is consulted for advice prior to commencement of works.
Jenny Smith on 2016-06-19 11:08:20 | Question:
We have gates which have some rust and have previously been painted with Hammerite. Can we use this paint sprayed directly onto the (cleaned) prepainted and rusty surfaces? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, as long as you prepare the surface to remove any loose and flaking paint and rust, Rust-Oleum Mathys Noxyde can be applied directly. Surface Preparation should be as follows; Remove grease, oil and all other surface contaminations by alkaline or high pressure (steam) cleaning (max. 200 Bars) in combination with appropriate detergents. The substrate has to be dust free and made rust free by means of sandblasting (Sa2, St2) or high pressure water jetting (min. 600 Bars). After jetting, the substrate has to be dust free. On new galvanised surfaces, new zinc, aluminium, stainless steel, apply first a coat of Rust-Oleum Mathys Pegalink Universal Adhesion Primer. On ferrous substrates, apply Noxyde in red or grey as the first coat. In all instances apply contrasting Noxyde colours for subsequent layers.
