Michael on 2022-06-29 11:32:51 | Question:
We’ve just built an annex for a customer and building control have turned round and said they won’t sign it off until we have painted in 30 minute fire proof paint. The building is finished in feather edge timber painted black. Can you recommend a product please? Ideally a clear Matt product please? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately for feather edged, shiplap or tongue and groove timber the maximum level of fire protection we can offer is Class 0. If this is acceptable to building control, approval is sought prior to application, the previously painted timber is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend Thermoguard Timbercoat BS Class 1/0 & EN Class B System. This is available in many RAL, NCS or BS colours in a matt or eggshell finish. Unfortunately we cannot recommend a clear option for a previously painted substrate.
[email protected] on 2021-07-30 12:42:43 | Question:
Hello, If one uses Thermguard, could I overpaint it in an opaque colour at later point? Had a customer ask me, and I could not find an answer. I can see Enviorgraf say yes on theirs, but that for metal. If yes, any specific do or don'ts. I was anticipating the heat needed to cause an issue would destroy our paint before the intumescent part kicks in, but wanted to check for sure. Thanks Adam |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately no we cannot recommend over painting a Thermoguard Fire Varnish system, this will effect the level of fire protection the system is achieving.
