Drying and recoating times are related to the film thickness, temperature, the relative humidity of the air and ventilation |
Surface Preparation
- All surfaces to be coated should be dry and cleaned as necessary to remove all oil, grease, salts, weld flux or other contamination
- Where necessary, remove weld spatter and grind smooth all sharp edges and weld seams
- Blast clean to Sa2½ (ISO 8501-1:2007), surface profile 50-75 microns
- Where blast cleaning is impractical the surface should be prepared to St2 (ISO 8501-1:2007) taking care to avoid ‘polishing’ the surface
- Galvanized Substrates - first apply a suitable adhesion primer such as ViterClad Bonding Coat
- GRP/Fibreglass - abrade and degrease with 1736 Thinners
Mixing
- Must be mixed thoroughly by using a mechanical agitator before use
- Agitate periodically to ensure paint remains homogeneous
Thinner
Thinner
- Axalta 1736 Thinner
Equipment Cleaner
- Axalta 1736 Thinner
Application Conditions
- Only apply in conditions of good ventilation which must be maintained during drying and curing
- Do not apply when rain, mist, sleet or snow are imminent
- During application and drying time of the paint coating, the surface should be dry, the relative humidity should not exceed 85% and the steel temperature should remain at least 3°C above the dew point
- Paint temperature should ideally be at a minimum of 15ºC
Application Methods
- Airless Spray (recommended): Output fluid pressure at tip 2000-2500 psi, Tip Size 11-15 thou (0.28-0.38 mm)
- Conventional spray: Typical air atomising pressure 60-80 psi, 1.0 to 1.4mm tip
- Will require the addition of up to 25% 1736 Thinner to achieve optimum application viscosity
- Note: this may render the thinned product non-compliant with PG6/34b (06)
- Please check the VOC content of the particular colour used and degree of thinning with Axalta Coating Systems to ensure compliance
Product Notes
- Designed for overcoating with high performance gloss topcoats including:
- ViterLac TF95 – modified urethane alkyd gloss
- ViterThane PLV – 2 pack polyurethane gloss finish
- ViterDur HS90 - 2 pack polyurethane gloss finish
