JOHN on 2022-06-09 13:37:35 | Question:
My cellar walls are bare brick, damp and subject to mould/fungus. Can this be painted directly onto the bricks and mortar? Thank you. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
While this can be applied to a bare substrate such as bare brick it should be noted that this paint requires excellent ventilation during application and curing as it has very strong odour. As an alternative assuming the walls are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend Zinsser Watertite.
Deirdre on 2021-09-28 12:28:24 | Question:
Good morning. Your Rust - Oleum paint looks ideal for my basement kitchen walls which are very prone to damp. I have spent the last couple of months using a dehumidifier , and this has helped dry things out ready for a breathable paint. Can the Rust-Oleum be tinted, please, or does it have to be white? Thank you. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Mathys Durbocem is a sovlent based paint that after application will require excellent ventilation for approximately 2 weeks, in this time it will give off odours. This paint cannot be tinted but it can be over painted with Mathys Paracem which can be mixed to many RAL and BS colours. Alternatively assuming the substrate is clean, dry prior to application and can be kept dry for approximately 72 hours after application to allow the product to cure we can recommend Keim Optil. This is available in a range Keim specific colours and would be a lower odour option.
JOHN KEY on 2019-04-13 05:48:23 | Question:
HI THERE I BOUGHT A TIN OF MATHYS DURBOCEM WHITE MATT FROM YOU A FEW MONTHS AGO AND USED IT TO TREAT A WALL IN MY CONSERVATORY AND IT WORKED WONDERFULLY I NOW WANT TO USE IT ON A DAMP WALL IN A BEDROOM AFTER PAINTING WILL I BE ABLE TO WALLPAPER THAT WALL MANY THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE REGARDS JOHN |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Mathys Durbocem wouldn't be suitable for this application, we would instead recommend Coo-Var Anti-Damp Paint.
Marion Brownlie on 2019-04-08 19:40:53 | Question:
I am property convenor for a Church and the window ingoes are plastered on the sandstone. Would this paint be suitable to stop moulding peeling of paint? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
For the interior decoration of walls and ceilings in traditional and historic buildings, including churches, we would recommend Zinsser Grade 1 which acts as a primer, sealer and finish coat in 1.
David on 2018-11-11 15:21:10 | Question: I have old exterior walls from 1915, a mixture of clay tile block, masonry, plaster and cement. It also breathes damp, I think the clay tile block retains moisture more than typical exterior wall structures? What would stick the best as all other paints seem to peel off after time due to the moisture. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Rust-Oleum Mathys Durbocem is ideally suited to be applied to damp walls, however we would advise defining exactly why the walls are so wet. That way we can be sure to provide the most appropriate solution.
Mary Hill on 2017-12-13 00:11:58 | Question: My kitchen is in the basement of a 19th century cottage. One wall is built with clunch , a very porous stone, the outside of this wall is under soil. There is a continuous patch of damp and mould where the moisture seeps through the stone. I use an anti mould spray and paint it with breathable clay paint but the stain always re-appears . Will this product help the problem and can I use clay paint over it. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: A water stain will keep reappearing through a clay paint. The surface needs to be sealed to prevent the moisture coming through, a clay paint is not going do this. Zinsser Watertite would be our suggestion from our range, you would need to remove the existing paint coatings and any plaster back to the bare clunch stone. Treat mould etc, then apply the 2 coats of Zinsser Watertite. This can be mixed to a pastel colour to avoid applying a top coat or you can paint over the Watertite using a clay paint provided it has had 14 days to fully cure. You will lose the anti mould properties if you decide to paint over the Watertite however.
Anna on 2017-10-19 12:33:10 | Question: Hello,
I have a rising damp issue on one of my walls which has a layer of paint and plaster. Is this product suitable and can I paint the wall after with interior paint? I was originally looking at the watertite product but seem to only be able to use it on brick walls?
|
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Coo-Var Anti-Damp Paint should be better suited to your project.
Paul Biddick on 2017-03-31 22:41:41 | Question: Hi, I'm looking for a product for an exterior retaining wall. I have bleached and pressure washed it and in some areas the paint has come off revealing patches of masonry. Is this a suitable product and should I put a primer/undercoat on the bare areas first? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Rust-Oleum Mathys Durbocem should be ideal for this sort of application and does not require any primers or similar applying before application.
