Teamac Hull Blacking
A high-quality bitumen-based hull coating, specifically formulated to offer robust protection for the hulls of narrowboats, cruisers, and other inland waterway vessels. The coating is engineered to adhere to a variety of surfaces, including wood, steel, and cast iron, providing an effective barrier against water and environmental damage.
Application and Use
This product is designed for ease of application using a brush or roller. No primer or undercoat is required, making the application process straightforward. However, it is important to note that the coating should only be applied to clean, dry, and sound surfaces. For new wood surfaces, sanding is recommended to create an adequate "key" for the coating. If you are applying this to previously painted surfaces, ensure that they are cleaned, degreased, and lightly sanded to promote adhesion.
Performance and Compatibility
The bitumen-based formulation of this hull coating ensures a strong, waterproof barrier that protects your vessel from the harsh conditions of waterways. It is crucial to use this product only with other bitumen-based products, as over-coating with conventional solvent-based paints can lead to black bleeding through the topcoat. The coating reaches full hardness over time and is designed to withstand the rigours of constant water exposure and varying temperatures.
Restrictions and Recommendations
Do not thin this product, as dilution can compromise its protective qualities. The product should not be used on surfaces other than wood, steel, or cast iron, and it is not recommended for use in confined spaces without proper ventilation. To maintain the integrity of the coating, avoid exposure to high temperatures and humidity during application. If you require a product for over-coating or finishing, ensure that it is also bitumen-based to prevent any adverse reactions.
Health and Safety
Always handle with care, as this product is classified as a flammable liquid and can cause dizziness or drowsiness upon inhalation. Use appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves and eye protection, and ensure good ventilation during application. This product is toxic to aquatic life and should be disposed of responsibly. Refer to the product's safety data sheet for detailed information on handling, storage, and disposal.
