Axalta ViterLac DTM190 Primer/Finish is a one coat anti-corrosive alkyd primer/finish (gloss) for the ACE market. Fast drying single coat system for blast cleaned steelwork for in-shop application.

ColourPicker Explained

In general we sort colours for products into 2 main groups - ‘Ready Mixed’ and ‘Tinted’.
Tinted colours will always be more expensive than Ready Mixed colours as they need to be produced at the time of order using a tinting machine dispensing colourant into a base*.
During busy periods, this means that tinted colours could take longer, for example – a ready mixed colour ordered on a 3-5 day delivery might arrive within 3 days, however a tinted colour might take the full 5 days to arrive.

To find Ready Mixed colours, search "ready mixed" or select the Ready Mixed 'colour chart'. To see Tinted colours select a colour chart such as RAL, BS, NCS, etc. or search for a colour/hue to see available or related options.

To ensure fair pricing, we split colours into ‘Price Bands’ to group together similar priced colours. If you wish to search for the cheapest tinted colours, always select Price Band 1.

We have made every effort to display as accurately as possible the colours of our Products but we cannot guarantee that the colour shown on Customer’s monitor’s display will accurately reflect the colour of the Product on delivery. We recommend that Customer first purchases the smallest Product available or access an industry standard colour chart in person (and not digitally) to ensure that the colour is acceptable for its purposes.

Description

It is designed for airless spray application, and it has excellent build properties and hold-up on edges.

Axalta ViterLac DTM190 provides a colourful, high gloss system in one coat*.

*Colours such as yellows, reds and oranges have lower opacity, especially when produced using lead-free pigments. Two or three coats of these shades may be required, relative to only one coat of a grey or red oxide, so that yellows, bright reds and oranges may not be suitable as one coat systems.

Drying and recoating times are related to the film thickness, temperature, the relative humidity of the air and ventilation

Surface Preparation

All surfaces to be coated should be dry and cleaned as necessary to remove all oil, grease, salts, weld flux or other contamination
Where necessary, remove weld spatter and grind smooth all sharp edges and weld seams
Blast clean to Sa2½ (ISO 8501-1:2007), surface profile 50-75 microns

Must be mixed thoroughly by using a mechanical agitator before use
Agitate periodically to ensure paint remains homogeneous

Application Conditions

Only apply in conditions of good ventilation which must be maintained during drying and curing
Do not apply when rain, mist, sleet or snow are imminent
During application and drying time of the paint coating, the surface should be dry, the relative humidity should not exceed 85% and the steel temperature should remain at least 3°C above the dew point
Paint temperature should ideally be at a minimum of 15ºC

Application Methods

Airless Spray: Output fluid pressure at tip 2000-2500 psi, Tip Size 11-13 thou (0.28-0.33 mm)
Conventional spray: typical atomising pressure 40-60 psi, will require thinning to 23-35 seconds at 25ºC through a BS B4 Flow Cup. Multiple coats will be required to achieve recommended dft
Application by brush/roller will result in a reduced film thickness and is recommended only for small areas of touch up/remedial work

Product Notes

Damaged areas may be touched up after the minimum times shown. Can be overcoated with itself indefinitely if clean and sound
In common with most alkyd primers and primer/finishes, this product is not recommended for extended exterior exposure, exposure in aggressive or coastal locations, or for immersion. Epoxy primers are preferred for these conditions, please consult Axalta Coating Systems or Rawlins Paints Technical Department on 0113 2455450 (option 2) or send a message to [email protected] for advice.
When fully cured, ViterLac DTM190 resists splashes of diesel oil and hydraulic fluid. Splashes of petrol and brake fluid may cause some softening and loss of gloss. Splashes should be immediately removed to prevent long term film damage
Some shades may contain lead based colourants and these are labelled (L)
