Preparation

The area to be treated should be first cleaned with a high-pressure washer or a stiff bristled broom and soapy water to remove grease, oil, wax or any other surface contaminants and loose particles. Any defects in the surface such as cracks, splits and blisters need to be treated prior to application, surfaces that are irregular should be filled with a suitable material. Allow all surfaces to dry before commencing work.

KoverTek G-40 Multiseal, TekPrime SD or TekPrime PVC are required before the application of TekPur SP, the type of primer and coverage is dependent on the surface type and porosity. Allow primer to fully dry before application (See primer guide for approximate coverage and drying times).

Gaps in the substrate/surface above 2mm or subject to movement need to be filled with Soudal Fix-All or similar product (do not use silicones). If applying onto OSB3 boards the joints need to be taped with TekTape self-adhesive butyl tape, tape should be applied centrally to joints.

Surfaces must be recoated within a maximum 48 hours from the first coat, if this is exceeded another coat of primer must be applied to avoid delamination of the layers.

The surface must be dry and structurally sound to be able to carry the intended load to enable safe use of the area prior to commencing work. Remove all loose contamination from the substrate such as organic growth, dust and dirt or any other material that would affect bonding.

Pay special attention to the dew point. When working the surface must be 3°C above the dew point. If the dew point is not reached the surface to be primed can form a moisture film and cause separation. Absorbent materials must be fire primed with KoverTek G-40 Multiseal. Non-absorbent materials need no primer unless there are jointed areas that should have primer around them.

Residual moisture in the first 20mm of the surface should not exceed 5%, where the surface is exceeding this level KoverTek G-40 Multiseal should be used to seal the surface prior to work commencing, however this should only be used up to a maximum of 15% residual surface moisture.

Always try a test patch prior to large scale application to ensure suitability of the surface.

Never apply below 5°C as this can affect surface adhesion and cure.

Existing Coatings Not generally suitable, proceed with caution and contact our Technical Department for guidance.

Not suitable for unsound surfaces, swimming pools in contact with chemically treated water, fishponds.

PLEASE NOTE – There are many variations of the surfaces listed as suitable, in all instances a small area should be tested prior to commencing the main body of work to ensure that a suitable bond is achieved, we do not recommend for use on areas over 200m² in one continuous area. Please contact the Technical Team on 0113 2455450 (option 2) or send a message to [email protected] to discuss larger projects.

Application

For best results KoverTek TekPur Waterproof Balcony Kit should be applied by professional roofers experienced in cold lay resin systems.

Mix using a low-speed mixer set to a maximum of 300rpm, mix thoroughly to the base of the container avoiding adding air in to the product which can create air bubbles.

Carry out any detailing and perimeter works prior to the application onto the main areas.

TekPur SP can be applied with a suitable short/mid pile roller, brush or squeegee. Apply either one thicker coat at minimum 2kg per m² or two thinner layers at the same application rate. You have a maximum of 48 hours to apply the second coat before the TekPrime needs to be used again.

The anti-slip additive is optional but recommended for walkways, steps or other areas classed as a potential slip hazard. The anti-slip additive not only provides anti-slip properties but also offers enhanced UV & Alkali resistance. If required, broadcast the anti-slip additive evenly by hand over the freshly applied TekPur Polyurethane surface whilst still wet and back roll the surface.

Back rolling is achieved by rolling the application roller used to apply the coating (no further coating should be applied, just the left over product still within the roller is fine) back over the surface once the anti-slip additive has been scattered over the area. This technique aids uniform appearance and helps ensure the additive is secured by the wet coating.

Do not overwork or apply too much pressure, the aim is to produce an even appearance whilst still allowing the anti-slip aggregate to be proud of the coating surface to provide slip resistance. Once the system has cured, the area should be swept down to remove any excess anti-slip additive not secured.

The degree of slip resistance achieved cannot be guaranteed as this will vary between applications dependent on the substrate and applicator. If slip resistance is important you should ensure the finished surface is independently tested to confirm it meets your requirements.

Cure Times

Working Time Approx. 60 mins
Recoat Time Between 6-18 hours

Material Safety

NOTE: Please refer to Product MSDS SHEETS for advice on safe handling – available to download above under the ‘DATA SHEETS’ tab.

It is of extreme importance that protective gloves and eye protection are worn when handling base, hardener or mixed product. Spills or splashes must be removed immediately – if allowed to dry, material can only be removed mechanically or with heat and/or harsh chemicals.

Contains Flammable & Volatile solvents – Always apply in well-ventilated area, no smoking or naked flames can be near the application area whilst the product is curing. Solvent fumes are heavier than air and need to be ventilated correctly if using in enclosed areas and suitable active carbon filter masks must be worn.
