This specially formulated single-component coating is developed to chemically bond with PVC and leather surfaces. The product provides superior adhesion and durability, ensuring long-lasting results in both residential and commercial settings. Available in gloss, matt, and other finishes, it offers flexibility in achieving the desired look for any project.
Application & Equipment
For best results, apply this product using an HVLP spray gun. It is crucial to maintain the right air pressure, air volume, and pot pressure during application. Ensure the equipment is cleaned thoroughly between uses with a suitable solvent to prevent contamination between different colours.
Surface Preparation
Before applying, the surface must be clean, dry, and free from contaminants such as dust, grease, or oil. Sand the surface lightly if necessary to ensure better adhesion. The product chemically bonds with PVC and leather, so no primer is required. Do not use on non-PVC or non-leather surfaces as it may lead to poor adhesion or durability.
Curing Process
The coating requires an ambient flash time of 10 to 15 minutes between coats at 16°C, with a complete cure achieved after 50 minutes at 50°C. Post-cure time is 24 hours at ambient temperature. These steps ensure the best durability and finish for the coating. Avoid using the product in temperatures above 50°C as it may compromise the curing process.
Limitations & Restrictions
Do not apply the product to surfaces that are not PVC or leather. Ensure proper ventilation when using the product, and never expose the product to direct sunlight or temperatures exceeding 50°C. Keep away from heat sources and avoid static build-up that may result in a fire hazard.
Recommendations
For cleaning equipment, use proprietary gun cleaning solvents to maintain the quality of application. This product is best paired with a similar product line for finishing, or additional coatings if required. Always refer to the downloadable data sheet for detailed instructions and safety guidelines.

Questions
Question about the product
Bill kirk on 2023-01-29 15:27:27 | Question:
Can Vinylkote be reapplied at any time with out any preparation, except vinyl Kleen ? Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
That is correct, Vinylkote only requires cleaning with Kolorbond VinylKleen before recoating provided that no lacquers or polishes have been used. If any polish has been used it will have to be removed with Kolorbond VinylPrep or in difficult cases with gun-wash containing toluene.
Andrew Walters on 2022-12-29 12:49:01 | Question:
Can it be applied by brush? And: My seats have vinyl side panels and a cloth centre panels. I Kolorbond Vinylcote suitable for use on the cloth part of the seats? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, this is for spray application only and is not suitable for application to cloth seats, this can be used on vinyl or leather.
Andrew Webber on 2022-08-16 08:41:42 | Question:
Hi, I'm considering your Vinylkote to refurbish a car vinyl roof. Unfortunately the vinyl roof has had some previous repairs using CT1 sealer / adhesive. The repairs are sound but do not exhibit the 'leather grain effect' texture of the vinyl. So questions are will the Vinylkote adhere to the CT1 repaired areas ? Will I be able to make a slightly textured surface into the Vinykote (eg with a small roller) before it completely dries so as to disguise the difference between the two existing surface finishes ? Thank you |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We do not know the full chemical makeup of CT1 sealer but if it contains silicon it will not be suitable for painting. If it does not contain silicon it is possible that Vinylkote will adhere to it but this paint is applied in very thin coats which dry almost immediately and the final finish is less than 20 microns so it will not be possible to texture with a roller. We would recommend testing for compatibility and adhesion on a small area prior to full application.
Gavin on 2022-07-27 13:43:57 | Question:
Hi - would this be suitable for painting kitchen cupboard doors that are covered in paintable vinyl wrap ? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately no, assuming the vinyl wrapped cupboards are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend Kolorbond uPVC Painting Kits. This can be mixed to many RAL, NCS or BS colours in a satin finish.
Gareth thomas on 2022-02-10 20:51:06 | Question:
Can this be used on plastic car interiors, such as dash boards and door cards? Is it hard wearing and scratch resistent? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, assuming the plastics in question are UPVC or PVC, this hardwearing, it is used to refinish vehicle upholstery as well as vehicle hoods and trims.
Howard on 2021-10-24 21:21:47 | Question:
"Could this be used on shoes? (Leather and imitation leather) |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product can be applied to soft vinyl or soft leather substrates, this is normally used for refinishing seats upholstery, but assuming the shoes are leather or vinyl it will adhere.
Paul Hassall on 2021-10-02 12:06:32 | Question:
Do you need to thin the vinylkote paint and if so what ratio and which thinner would it need? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This paint does not require thinning for application.
