Questions
Question about the product
Tom Chapman on 2024-03-27 11:33:59 | Question:
Please can you advise the following: What is the size of the paint expansion in the event of a fire (ie how close can things go to a painted beam) eg 50mm? Can items be hung from painted beams using unistrut (eg cable containment) and if so is there a limit on the size and frequency of hangers? Where a steel beam goes from being exposed and intumescent painted to a section where it is boarded for fire protection with no intumescent paint, is there a need to overlap the paint and boards? If so by how much? Many thanks Rgds Tom |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
It would need on the film thickness specified. But it is usually 50x the dry film depth allowance for expansion. Regarding hangers and overlap this would need to be addressed during the specification. If you require assistance with a specification please provide the information below to [email protected] - Level of fire protection required (i.e. 30, 60, 90min, etc.) - Each steel section dimension (i.e. 254x146x37 UB) - Quantity and length of each section (or overall meterage for each section) - Orientation (horizontal or vertical) - Number of sides to be painted (all sides, 3 sides, 1 flange, etc.) - Structural Steel Design Code (i.e. EuroCode, BS5950, BS476; Part 21, etc.) - Building type (i.e. office, domestic, storage, etc.) - Environment (internal, external, car park, chemical exposure, etc.) - Application on site or in shop Alternatively you can just forward us drawings, fabrication/cutting lists and we'll extract the information from them but in that instance we'd need some guidance as to what to allow for i.e. all steels on first floor, etc. | |
