Rust-Oleum Tarmacoat - Fast Drying Acrylic Floor Paint
Rust-Oleum Tarmacoat is a versatile, rapid curing acrylic floor paint designed for a wide range of surfaces including asphalt, concrete, pavement, and bitumen. Its fast-drying formula ensures it is rain-proof and recoatable after just one hour, making it perfect for both short-term and long-term projects. The water-based formulation is safe to use, emits virtually no odour, and provides excellent resistance to U.V. and weathering. Available in a variety of colours, Tarmacoat offers the flexibility and durability needed for diverse applications.
Applications
- Asphalt and concrete surfaces.
- Pavements and bitumen substrates.
- Parking bays for short-term or intermittent use.
- Line marking for tennis courts and playgrounds.
Usage Instructions
Ensure the surface is clean, sound, and dry (slightly damp is acceptable). Tarmacoat can be applied to existing paint provided all poorly bonded material is removed and glossy surfaces are dulled using abrasive paper. For porous concrete surfaces, first prime with Primer 44HS or EpoxyShield Sealer 5220. For asphalt surfaces, apply a coat of Tarmacoat diluted with 20% water.
- Brush: Apply undiluted.
- Roller: Use a medium pile type roller. One coat is generally sufficient, although a second coat may be necessary for very porous or rough surfaces.
Safety and Limitations
Do not apply:
- In areas constantly under water.
- On garage floors.
- Externally if rain or frost is forecast or if the temperature is below 10ºC.
Always refer to the downloadable data sheet for more detailed information on product usage and safety measures.

Contains substances that may cause an allergic reaction. Ensure proper ventilation during application. Avoid inhalation of spray or mist. Wear appropriate protective equipment as outlined in the safety data sheet.

Would you recommend this for painting an exterior concrete base for a garden shed? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the concrete is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this can be used. If you are looking for a surface applied damp proof membrane we would recommend 402 Damp Proof Coating.

Rust-Oleum Tarmacoat can be applied to exterior concrete surfaces but will not 'infill' or 'hide' the imprinted pattern the concrete has it will only colour it.
Jeff on 2017-11-01 09:12:44 | Question:
Can these colours be mixed to make different shades? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
If you are asking two different colours of standard Tarmacoat can be mixed together to achieve a different colour, then yes that is possible. But the responsibility as to the actual colour achieved, and for any additional mixings to be consistent, is entirely with yourself.
Bob on 2016-11-25 08:51:25 | Question:
Is the anti slip aggregate ready mixed in or can extra be added and are two coats preferable |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Tarmacoat is a smooth coating so if you wish to produce a non-slip surface you would need to use one of the Rust-Oleum Non-Skid Additives which can either be mixed into the Tarmacoat or sprinkled into the freshly applied coating and overcoated once dry.
