Preparation
Ensure the surface to be painted is sound, clean, dry and free from grease or any substance liable to give adhesion problems. Scrape off any old or flaking paint until you have a firm surface. Special attention should be given to areas under cars to ensure all oil, grease, dirt and road salt is removed. Prepared surfaces with residual oil contamination should be primed with Blackfriar Professional Oil Tolerant Primer. New concrete must be left for at least 6 months before applying Blackfriar Professional High Traffic Floor Paint. Power-floated floors should either be blast tracked or treated with Blackfriar Professional Acid Etch followed by thorough rinsing. New or exposed bare concrete should be primed with Blackfriar Professional Epoxy Floor Primer.
Mixing
Base and activator are supplied in correct proportions. Add all activator to base container and mix thoroughly for at least 5 minutes until product is smooth and even. Allow to rest 5 minutes before using. DO NOT MIX PART UNITS. Badly activated or incorrectly mixed materials will affect performance and may cause early failure or discolouration. The mixed material has a usable pot life of 6 hours at 20°C.
Application
Apply with a good quality medium pile roller - smaller areas may be brushed.
Limitations
Not suitable for spray. Blackfriar Professional High Traffic Floor Paint is not suitable for use over PVC, thermoplastic tiles, quarry tiles or granolithic concrete. Do not apply it on concrete surfaces treated with alkali containing liquids, areas subjected to rising damp or areas treated with PVA bonding solutions. If applying over single pack conventional floor paint the existing coating must be aged and fully cured. Surfaces may be slippery when wet. To ensure slip resistance the floor must be kept dry when in use. The use of protective mats will help preserve the surface under tyres.

Questions
Question about the product
Sid on 2024-08-28 09:35:34 | Question:
Could this be applied to a sanded plywood substrate for high foot traffic ramp? What are the flexibility characteristics of this paint once cured? thanks, sid |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, for plywood this product wouldn't be suitable. Assuming the plywood is lightly abraded, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical datasheet, you could consider Coo-Var High Performance Primer followed by 2 coats of Coo-Var ProGrip Heavy Duty Two Pack Anti-Slip Floor Paint, to leave a hardwearing, aggregated, off-gloss finish for heavy trafficked areas.
Phil on 2023-10-19 21:51:24 | Question:
Is it UV stable - won't yellow if the sun is on it? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product does state that is is non yellowing which indicates good colour retention, however we don't have any testing results for UV protection so couldn't confirm if this would be suitable.
Matt Parker on 2019-04-30 08:07:20 | Question:
Hi, is the paint ready mixed or do you have to add harder and thiners? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Blackfriar Professional High Traffic Floor Paint is a 2 pack epoxy coating so a 5lt is supplied in 2 tins - 1 tin of base and a smaller tin of activator. You should add the activator to base container and mix thoroughly for at least 5 minutes until product is smooth and even. Allow to rest 5 minutes before using
Robbie Thorne on 2019-04-03 08:54:10 | Question:
I am considering using "Blackfriars High Traffic Paint" on a car parking bay. The 6mm asphalt surface course is old so existing oils on the surface course should not be a problem. Question: Does your product contain MMA which seems to be a prefered additive? Alternatively do you have any suggestions? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Blackfriar Professional High Traffic Floor Paint is not suitable for asphalt, instead we would suggest 703 MMA Flexible Anti-Slip Coating assuming the surface is not currently painted.
gary on 2016-03-14 07:12:11 | Question:
how does this product deal with (skydrol) aircraft hydraulic fluid, which are phosphate ether based? and what floor preparation is required? chemical /mechanical? do you offer product solutions to floors that require sealing first i.e concrete saturated in fluid |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
There has been no testing carried out on Blackfriar Professional High Traffic Floor Paint for Skydrol exposure but our 310 Chemical Resistant Coating and 304 HD Epoxy Floor Coating have both been tested for full immersion. Under fully immersed conditions (i.e. constant contact/exposure) 304 would require re-coating after 1-2 years and 310 would require coating after 5-10 years. Concrete should be a minimum of 21 days old and/or the residual moisture content below 6%. Ensure that the concrete is clean and free from dust, laitance, grease, oil, curing compound and existing paint finishes etc. Blow holes and defective concrete can be made good using 201 Epoxy Repair Mortar. Suitable mechanical treatment such as vacuum grit blasting of suitable diamond floor grinding is the preferred treatment prior to application as this ensures a mechanical ‘key’ for the coating. A coat of 401 Epoxy Floor Primer is recommended on absorbent concrete surfaces. Substrates with high moisture content or oil contamination can still be coated in most instances by the inclusion of one of our specialist primers. Please see 402 Damp Proof Coating and 403 Oil Tolerant Primer for full details.
