Application Instructions
- If you are brush applying Kolorbond Aquatek you will require disposable gloves and possibly protective clothing. A face mask is not necessary but essential if you decide to spray apply (the mask will require a particulate filter).
- To reduce the chance of over painting it is a good idea to apply a layer of masking tape on glass and other adjoining substrates.
- Before starting to clean the surfaces to be painted, dilute the Vinylkleen, one part to three parts water. Thoroughly clean the surface using the diluted Vinylkleen on one of the cloths provided. Keep turning the cloth as it becomes dirty.
- Now thoroughly clean again using a second cloth with Windowprep on it. This will remove any remaining contaminants and any dust produced earlier. Again, turn the cloth as it becomes dirty. Windowprep contains alcohols so please wear gloves to protect your skin from drying.
- Now lightly rub over all surfaces to be painted with the red abrasive pad. This will dull the surface but should not leave any scratch marks. If you are painting over wood grain foil, be careful not to rub too hard which can damage the wood grain finish.
- When everything is dry you are ready to start painting. Firstly, stir the paint making sure that you stir right to the bottom of the can so that any settled colourants are fully mixed back in. Do not stir too vigorously as you do not want to create bubbles in the paint.
- Apply the paint using the brush provided of a good quality synthetic brush. For roller application you must add up to 20% KolorFlow (not supplied) to the paint. (KolorFlow slows the drying of the paint, so can also be used to keep a wet edge when brushing or to prevent the paint from drying too fast on a hot day).
- Brush on the paint in a nice even coat. Do not apply too much paint and then try to ‘work’ it. This paint dries too quickly and you can damage the finish.
- When the paint is dry, after about 15 minutes, apply a second even coat being careful not to leave deep brush marks.
- If you have a break during painting, make sure that you put your brush into water straight away. Should you allow the paint to dry on the brush you will have to throw the brush away. You will not get the dried paint off.
- Although Kolorbond Aquatek dries very quickly it take up to a week to fully cure so please treat it gently for the first few days. If you have an area you want to cure quickly you can apply hot air from a domestic hairdryer once the paint is totally dry. Do not, of course, get the paint too hot or you could damage it.
- On finishing painting, immediately wash out your brush and any other equipment with plenty of water.
- NOTE: When prepping and painting, as described above, you should always use the correct protective equipment to protect your eyes, skin, respiratory tract and cloths etc. i.e. protective gloves, eye protection, clothing covering and respiratory masks fitted with organic vapour filters.
- Always ensure that your working area is sufficiently ventilated.
- Please read technical and safety data sheets before commencing.
