No, this product isn't suitable for application to flooring, it is intended for use in internal wall panels, top and underside of ceiling panels, rigid internal ducts/pipework and external wall sheets, fascia or soffits.

Hello, do you have any pictures of the white matt version of this paint on a surface once it has dried? I am considering using it to paint over an artex ceiling in a domestic flat and want to know how it would look and whether it would need to be painted over with regular domestic paint in order to look good aesthetically. Unfortunately we don't have any pictures we can supply. However, assuming the ceiling is intact and isn't flaking, is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical datasheet, this product can be applied followed by a standard water-based ceiling paint for a topcoat finish if required.

Yes this can be overpainted after application with an acrylic matt or acrylic eggshell water based paints if the paint is being used for asbestos encapsulation only. To retain the Class B level of fire protection it can only be over painted with the Thermoguard Wallcoat Smoke & Flame Retardant Topcoat .

What is the lifespan of coating once been applied to asbestos, walls or ceiling ??

The manufacturer does not state a lifespan for the coating, it should be regularly inspected for any damage and maintained.

No this product will not stop smoke stains bleeding through. Assuming the asbestos sheets are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommmend Zinsser AllCoat Interior (Solvent-Based) . This can be mixed to many RAL and BS colours in a matt finish.

Is it washable? Need to seal the underside of asbestos cement lining panels in a warehouse to be used for food preparation so surface needs to be capable of being washed.

Assuming the asbestos is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the Technical Data Sheet it would be suitable for this application but only in the eggshell finish option. Once applied and cured it is capable of being washed with warm water and standard detergents.

Where practical, surfaces should be clean and dry prior to applying 2 coats of Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coating . The 1st coat should be diluted 10% with clean water followed by an undiluted coat to create a continuous film.

Could I paint the inside of a garage roof it’s starting to seap through after heavy rain... the roof is pitched and I’d rather paint from inside than outside

Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coating in this particular instance would not be suitable to use on the underside of your roof to try and waterproof it. This should really be done from the topside with a waterproof roof coating such as Britannia Aquashield High Build .

Can you use this on top of glasbesto cladding which is in sound condition will this paint Stick to the glasbesto cladding without rubbing down we are only allowed to clean surface with a water-based degreaser .

We are not familiar with 'Glasbesto', but if it is similar to rigid asbestos sheets - a dull granular surface - and does not contain wax or silicones, Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coating will bond extremely well without abrasion. Bond and every other characteristic are far better than vinyl emulsion, so a test patch to see if vinyl emulsion bonds will indicate if Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coating will bond well. Suitable for internal or external use but NOT on tops of roofs.

Could you please advise me who makes this product? Also, I need to coat a big area of asbestos soffit boards, which have already been painted. Can this be applied directly to the painted area, without the need to scrape any loose paint off? The soffit boards are made of a low grade of asbestos cement. Kind regards Chris

The manufacturer of the Asbestos Encapsulating Coating is Thermoguard. The coating can be applied over previously painted substrates but if the existing paint is glossy then you would need to create a key before application. If there are any areas of loose or flaking existing coating then these would need to be removed but care must be taken when doing so as you are working with asbestos. The coating can be used internally and externally with the only exception that it can’t be used on a roof.

In general we sort colours for products into 2 main groups - ‘Ready Mixed’ and ‘Tinted’.
Tinted colours will always be more expensive than Ready Mixed colours as they need to be produced at the time of order using a tinting machine dispensing colourant into a base*.
During busy periods, this means that tinted colours could take longer, for example – a ready mixed colour ordered on a 3-5 day delivery might arrive within 3 days, however a tinted colour might take the full 5 days to arrive.

To find Ready Mixed colours, search "ready mixed" or select the Ready Mixed 'colour chart'. To see Tinted colours select a colour chart such as RAL, BS, NCS, etc. or search for a colour/hue to see available or related options.

To ensure fair pricing, we split colours into ‘Price Bands’ to group together similar priced colours. If you wish to search for the cheapest tinted colours, always select Price Band 1.

Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coating

Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Smoke & Flame Retardant Coat seals rigid, sound asbestos in locations within buildings which are not subject to mechanical damage, concealed or are difficult to access.

Also used to seal in isolated asbestos fibres remaining after primary asbestos removal has taken place. Effectively prevents the release of asbestos fibres into the atmosphere by encapsulating them. Permanently bonds residual asbestos fibres, after primary removal, to the surface to which they are attached or upon which they lay.

This product is available in 12m² or 50m² pack sizes. These tins allow sufficient product to apply the required 2 coats to the stated areas.

So, a 12m² pack should be used to apply 2 coats to 12m² and a 50m² pack should be used to apply 2 coats to 50m².

Application & Spreading Rate

Apply 2 coats. First coat should be thinned 10% with water and applied at 10m² per litre. Second coat should be applied undiluted at 10m² per litre.
Apply by brush, roller, or low pressure HVLP spray
For ease coating inaccessible areas use extension arm on the spray unit or roller on extension pole
Ensure a continuous film has been created
Ensure surfaces are dry
Clean surfaces* where practical
Avoid application when condensation may form

Health & Safety

*Any required cleaning should be with either a type H vacuum cleaner or manual cleaning in a wet / washing process, followed by wiping off with damp rags, to avoid release of asbestos fibres into the atmosphere. Surfaces cleaned in this manner must be allowed to dry thoroughly before coating.

Avoid the use of blow heaters or fans and limit air movement until Thermoguard Asbestos Encapsulating Coat system has been applied & dried.

Wear disposable full-body hooded overalls, plastic shoe covers, plastic gloves, goggles & sealed mask with fine dust particle filters. Wash mask and goggles after use. Dispose of filters gloves, shoe covers and disposable overalls and any cleaning rags after each work session into sealed containers. Dispose of in an approved facility.
