Damp-proofs, decorates and resists mould growth, creating an easy to clean surface on damp walls, above or below ground level, and in basements.
- Resists up to 2 bars of water pressure
- Fast drying - recoatable in 4 hours
- Prevents water seepage through cement, masonry, concrete block walls and basement floor slabs
Watco Dampguard is a masonry coating to keep dampness and moisture out of basements, cellars etc. Resists up to 2 bar of water pressure and is also mould resistant.
Applied as two coats, the first coat primes, the second provides a damp proof, wipe clean finish which will resist mildew growth.
Watco Dampguard is applied like a conventional paint, leaving a smooth, white eggshell finish. It can be overcoated after 14 days if desired, but this will reduce its mould resistance.

Surface Preparation
Unpainted Masonry – Must be at least 30 days old, clean and free of oil, grease and other contaminants. Remove efflorescence with a stiff bristled brush or with an acid cleaner. Rinse thoroughly. Remove all mould and mildew. The surface may be dry or slightly damp.
Painted Surfaces – The effectiveness of Watco Dampguard on such surfaces depends entirely upon the soundness and waterproofing ability of the existing coating. Remove as much as possible. Clean and abrade any remaining coating. Take special precautions with pre 1960’s paints, since these may contain lead.
Water leaks and cracks should be patched with a suitable hydraulic cement plugging compound and allowed to dry thoroughly before applying Watco Dampguard.
Application
Do not thin. Stir well before use.
Apply two coats by short pile roller or brush, working the first coat well into the surface. Keep to the recommended coverage rates.
Allow the first coat to dry for at least 4 hours before applying the second. Inspect the completed job for pinholes etc and reapply where necessary.
Provide adequate ventilation in areas such as cellars and basements when applying.
Limitations
For severe situations with high water pressure use Watco Waterproof Coating.
Not recommended for potable water, fish tanks, swimming pools, or as a floor coating to take foot traffic.

Questions
Question about the product
Don on 2024-06-25 11:36:58 | Question:
Hello - cupboard under stairs with back wall plastered and concrete floor, both damp with mould. Thanks to your website - do I need Coo-Var anti-damp paint for wall and floor .... or should I go for Watco Dampguard for the floor and Coo-Var for the wall? Thanks for your help |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, Watco Fast Drying Dampguard wouldn't be the best option for this application, if the plaster remains damp, it would essentially disintegrate, whether the coating is applied or not. As an alternative, assuming the substrate is prepared as detailed in the technical datasheet, Watco Liquid Waterproofer can be applied to suitably prepared walls if the plaster is fully removed and also the floor. It will be fine for application to concrete as long as it is porous. Coo-Var Anti Damp Paint could be an option for the walls if the plaster remains. | |
