Watco Dampguard Advanced is a penetrative, water based epoxy resin damp proofing agent designed for use on internal walls and lightly trafficked floors. It guards generally against the percolation of moisture through concrete, brick and stone structures from inside or outside. It is highly wear and chemical resistant.
Watco Dampguard Advanced is microporous and therefore allows moisture vapour to pass through it. Do not apply a non porous finish over Watco Dampguard Advanced such as plaster, render, vinyl, tiles, paint (unless microporous) which will prevent it from breathing. Emulsion paint can be applied over the finished coating since it is generally permeable to moisture vapour. The surface should be abraded to provide a key.
When applied as a two or three coat system to a sound surface with good mechanical key, Watco Dampguard Advanced will resist considerable hydrostatic pressure (tested to 20m+ head of water).

Surface Preparation
Damp Surfaces – To ensure penetration, the surface should be as dry as possible, clean, sound and free of any loose material.
On surfaces subject to hydrostatic pressure, it is essential that all previous coatings and surface weaknesses be removed.
Concrete, Brick and Masonry – Concrete to be treated should preferably be dry and at least four weeks old and free of any soft surface laitance and contaminants. Thoroughly remove all loose material by wire brushing.
Very smooth concrete or concrete with soft laitance should be etched with Watco Etch & Clean and the area thoroughly washed off and allowed to dry. Grease or oil should be removed with Watco Bio-D and the area thoroughly washed off and allowed to dry. Very porous surfaces may be primed with one coat of Watco Universal Sealer Dustproofer.
Surfaces with algae or fungal growth – Remove all growths by wire brushing. Apply a fungicide to the surface allowing the surface to dry out between applications. Wash the surface thoroughly and allow to become as dry as possible.
Failure to remove traces of the fungicide may result in poor adhesion of the Watco Dampguard Advanced.
Painted Surfaces – Remove all defective paint and create a key by rotary wire brushing, sanding etc.
Mixing
Each pack of Dampguard Advanced consists of a container of resin and a larger container of activator. Stir and empty the complete contents of the resin into the activator and continue stirring with a wide bladed tool very thoroughly until an even colour is obtained.
Application
Best results are obtained in warm conditions with good ventilation (minimum 15°C).
Do not apply below 10°C.
Apply two liberal coats by a medium pile roller (not foam).
Avoid over-rollering. The second coat should be applied within 24 hours.
On high suction backgrounds or very damp surfaces a three coat system is recommended. In areas where the temperature exceeds 32°C and on high suction backgrounds it is advisable to dampen the surface first with water.
Do not re-work areas of coating or attempt to even out areas which are starting to cure and showing differences in colour. Any colour differences should disappear when the coating is thoroughly cured.
In exceptional temperature conditions advice should be obtained from our Technical Department on 0113 2455450 (option 2) or send a message to [email protected].

Questions
Question about the product
Liz on 2024-05-23 14:43:04 | Question:
Can use this paint over plastered and painted walls in a conservatory/ basement, where there are minor damp issues? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the painted plaster walls are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical datsaheet, to help with penetration this product can be applied, however it is advised to ensure the existing paint affected by damp areas is removed firstly, before a minimum of 2 coats is applied. Any sound existing coating should be sanded, allowing this product additional texture to adhere to on application. | |
