Wooden decking and ramps can be hazardous in the wet or become slippery with algae in shady or damp conditions. Damp, slippery timber can be made safer instantly using Watco GRP Decking Strips. Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) strips come in two textures, medium and extra coarse, bringing security underfoot on unprotected decks. They are suitable for use in both commercial and domestic areas and are especially effective in wet conditions.

Holes are pre drilled at approximately 300mm intervals. One row of holes is drilled in the 50mm and 90mm wide strips, two rows in the 120mm width. Holes are 50mm in from each end. Screws are supplied for fixing to timber.

Medium Grade Decking Strips are supplied in 1200mm and 2400mm lengths and 50mm or 90mm widths. They are designed for areas of decking mainly used by children or vulnerable adults.

Fixing

• Easy fit, all items preformed. Glue or screw fix, pre-drilled for easy fixing to timber and with all screws supplied
• Can be trimmed on site using a good quality abrasive disc, jigsaw or hacksaw if required
• Just lay the strip onto the wooden decking and fix using an appropriate screw
• When drilling the strip it is not necessary to countersink the hole
• Supplied pre-drilled using a number 10 drill and a number 8 screw. The larger hole size allows for any slight movement that may arise due to the long, thin shape on timber which can flex or expand. If any additional screw fixings are required, a number 10 drill and number 8 screw is recommended

If mechanical fixing is required, the following may be used as a guide:

• To timber: no.8 x 30mm zinc plated or stainless steel screws
• To steel plate: no.8 x 20mm self-tapping pan head Pozi stainless steel screws or No.8 x 20mm self drilling pan head Philips zinc plated screws
• To concrete: no.8 x 30mm zinc plated or stainless steel impact anchors (Hilti HPS-1 or similar)
• To open mesh: stainless steel or zinc plated saddle clips and domed head bolts suitable in length for the depth of the existing treads

Slip Resistance

Watco GRP Decking Strips are available in 2 grades.

Medium Grade achieves Low slip potential, wet PTV 71.

Extra Course Grade achieves Extremely Low slip potential, wet PTV 80.

To ensure that the above slip resistant levels are maintained the strips should be kept clean.
