Cover stair risers with an extremely durable slip resistant surface. Firm-Step Riser Plates finish the job to give vertical surfaces the same long lasting appearance. They have a smooth finish to avoid scuffing, and do not normally need to be cut to height as the top edge is hidden behind the step nosing.

Adhesive Fixing
- Apply an approx. 6mm bead (this may need to be increased dependant on the substrate conditions) of Watco Adhesive Mastic around the periphery of the underside of the Firm-Tread approx. 25mm in from the edges
- Riser Plates should be fitted before any of the stair treads
- Push these onto the riser as far down as they will go. When Firm-Tread Step Covers are fitted these will hold the Firm-Step Risers in position
Mechanical Fixing
To Timber:
- Lay out all pieces of Firm-Step material on the substrate upside down
- Apply the Watco Adhesive Mastic as stated above. Turn the material over and secure to the substrate, applying body weight to expel any air
- Mark Firm-Step where holes are to be drilled, Using a 6mm masonry drill bit, drill through Firm-Step only exposing the substrate
- Using a 3.85mm drill bit, drill through the stair tread as stated above (for hard wood, you may need to pilot hole)
- Once all treads have been pre-drilled, using stainless steel screws (Stainless steel Pozi head 32mm x 4.2mm screws), screw the material down and aim to make the screw fixings flush with the top surface
To steel checker plate (or similar):
- Lay out all pieces of Firm-Step material on the substrate upside down
- Apply the adhesive as stated above. Turn the material over and secure to the substrate, applying body weight to expel any air
- Using a 3.85mm drill bit, drill through the stair tread and steel checker plate
- Once all treads have been pre-drilled, using stainless steel screws (Stainless steel Pozi head 32mm x 4.2mm screws), screw the material down and aim to make the screw fixings flush with the top surface.
To concrete or ceramic:
- Lay out all pieces of Firm-Step material on the substrate upside down
- Apply the adhesive as stated above. Turn the material over and secure to the substrate, applying body weight to expel any air
- Using a 6mm masonry drill bit, drill through the stair tread and into concrete
- Push raw plugs into the 6mm drilled hole and tap to ensure that the raw plugs are flush with the substrate
- Once all treads have been pre-drilled, using stainless steel screws (Stainless steel Pozi head 32mm x 4.2mm screws), screw the material down and aim to make the screw fixings flush with the top surface
To open mesh:
- To avoid hitting a load bar of the open mesh, place the Firm-Step material on the open mesh area, then from underneath, mark where you want the fixing to go
- Then using a 10mm drill bit, drill through the Firm-Step and ensure it is in the centre of the open mesh
- Once all treads have been pre-drilled, using 40mm dome
head bolts push them through the pre-drilled holes - Using a 40mm diameter washer and a nylock nut, tighten up from underneath

Questions
Question about the product
Richard Fitzgerald on 2023-09-06 17:41:08 | Question:
Is the riser flooring fire rated and can you advise thickness and mass per m2 for loading consideration |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product isn't fire rated. These are not load bearing due to designed for vertical applications. Assuming you are looking of grp anti-slip plates you could consider Anti-Slip Flat Plate. These contain a Fire Resistant Additive resulting in a Euro Class 1 fire rating in accordance with ISO 9239-1 and ISO 11925-2. This performance is equivalent to ASTM E84 class 1 and BS 476 part 7 class 2 flame spread and in effect gives a 25 minute burn time on the material. | |
