Substrate Quality/Pre-treatment
Contact surfaces should be sound, clean and provide a mechanical key. Remove all loose material, plaster, paint and oily deposits.
The prepared surfaces should be pre-dampened. Remove any standing water before placing Parex Bedding Mortar SF.
Mixing
Pour the required quantity of water into a suitable mixing vessel. Slowly add the powder to the water whilst continuously mixing. Mechanical mixing is recommended. Suitable mixers include a slow speed high torque drill with a Mortar Stirrer or a forced action mixer such as Creteangle or Mixal. Mixing should be continued to form a mortar of consistency suitable for ramming into place.
Bedding Mortar is packed in 25kg bags. The yield obtained from these units is approximately 13 litres of mixed material.
Application
Place Parex Bedding Mortar SF firmly into the prepared gap. Use a suitable ramming tool to ensure complete filling of the gap and compaction of the mortar. Allow the mortar to stiffen then finish the exposed surface with a dampened steel trowel.
Curing of exposed surfaces should be undertaken in accordance with good concrete practice. Suitable methods of curing include water spray, polythene sheeting and spray applied concrete curing membrane such as Sikafloor ProSeal W.
Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use. Hardened / cured material can only be mechanically removed.
Limitations
- Avoid application in direct sun and / or strong wind and / or rain
- Do not add water over recommended dosage
- Apply only to sound, prepared substrates
- Do not add additional water during the surface finishing as this will cause discoloration and cracking
- Protect freshly applied material from freezing
