A primer for wall surfaces in general (e.g. concrete or repairs with cement mortars) before applying a coloured finishing coat from the Elastocolor, Quarzolite and Colorite range, used as regulator of substrate absorption and as adhesion promoter. Application examples include:
- As a primer on well cured new or old renders as long as they are not damaged, before applying a coloured finishing coat of Elastocolor, Quarzolite or Colorite range product
- As a primer over old paint, even if slightly chalky, before applying Elastocolor, Quarzolite or Colorite coloured finishing coat
- As a primer on surfaces that need to be treated in close or poorly ventilated environments because Malech is odourless, before applying a product from Elastocolor, Quarzolite or Colorite ranges
- Can also be used in the Aquaflex System cycle for permanent encapsulation of asbestos as a primer for covering layers of Aquaflex
Mapei Malech is an acrylic water-based primer. Malech is a micronized acrylic resin based primer in water dispersion that, once applied on the surface, penetrates better
than traditional water based primers. As it is odourless and solvent free, it can can be applied in close or poorly ventilated environments.

Features & Benefits
- Penetrates better than traditional water based primers
- Odourless and solvent-free
- Formulation ensures the consolidation of chalk present on surfaces that need to be treated
- Deep penetration into the surface slows down the formation of efflorescence
Recommendations & Limitations
- Do not use Malech on metal surfaces
- Do not apply Malech on wet surfaces
- Do not apply Malech at temperatures below 5°C
Substrate Preparation
New surfaces that need to be treated or small repairs with repair mortars must be cured, perfectly clean, sound and dry. Remove from the surface all traces of oil or grease and any loose material that is not perfectly bonded.
Seal any cracks and repair deteriorated surfaces. Seal any porous sections and level any uneven parts of the substrate
Product Preparation
Interior application: Dilute Malech with water at a variable rate depending on the type of substrate. As a general rule, it is suggested a dilution Malech/water in a ratio of 1/1 for more absorbent substrates and 1/2 for less absorbent substrates, in order to avoid the forming of a glassy film on the wall surface.
Exterior application: Malech is used as it is in case of porous and very absorbent substrates. In case of other types of substrate, dilute Malech with up to 50% of water according to the absorbency, in order to avoid the forming of a glassy film on the wall surface
Application
Mix Malech before use and apply it with a brush, roller or spray. Protect from pouring rain for at least 12 hours. Malech can be painted after 12-24 hours depending on the environmental conditions.
Cleaning
Brushes, rollers or spraying equipment (airless) should be cleaned with water before Malech dries.
