Sherwin-Williams Firetex FX2003 is single pack thin film intumescent coating, designed for in-shop application by airless spray to provide fire resistance for up to 120 minutes on structural steel.
Recommended Use
After appropriate drying, Firetex FX2003 specifications can be exposed to the weather for up to 6 months provided that the specific use or storage does not lead to ponding water due to rainfall, condensation or other site/transportation/storage circumstances.
Please note that this product should not be used without first receiving an application schedule from our Technical Department. Please download and complete the 'FIRETEX Intumescent Support Request Form' and return by email to [email protected]
If you have any questions regarding this process consult our technical department on 0113 2455450 (option 2).
Features
Firetex FX2003 can resist normal weather conditions for up to 6 months without topcoat provided it has had appropriate drying prior to exposure. Once an approved topcoat has been applied as appropriate to the prevailing conditions, then durability will be substantially enhanced. If the specific use or storage could lead to prolonged contact with water due to rainfall, condensation, or other site/transportation/storage circumstances, then a recommended topcoat must be used to prevent damage to the basecoat.

For externally exposed steelwork and severe internal environments Acrolon C137V2 or Acrolon C237 must be used as a topcoat. For other internal environments where a topcoat is required then Firetex M71V2 or Sher-Cryl M770 should be used. In all instances for subsequent re-decoration, use Firetex M71V2, Sher-Cryl M770, Acrolon C137V2 or Acrolon C237 as appropriate.

Questions
Question about the product
mark wearen on 2024-01-30 14:23:09 | Question:
Hi... can you advise if the product can be brush applied ? If using for touching up areas previously spray applied, can it be brush applied ? If not, how is touching up of this project carried out ? Thanks. Mark |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Small areas of mechanical damage can be repaired using Sherwin-Williams Firetex M72, Sherwin-Williams Firetex FX1003 or Sherwin-Williams Firetex FX2003 as preferred. Larger areas of mechanical damage should be repaired using Sherwin-Williams Firetex FX1003 or Sherwin-Williams Firetex FX2003 as preferred, applied by brush or spray. All repairs should then have the original topcoat reinstated by brush or spray as required. | |
mark wearen on 2024-01-30 14:22:00 | Question:
Hi... can you give me the M2 coverage per coat please. And can you give coverage (m2) for different fire ratings (e.g. m2 for 30 mins / 60 mins/ 90 mins / 120 mins etc. Thanks. Mark |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately an intumescent paint cannot be specified in this way, there is not set coverage rate, it will vary dependant on the steels in question. Please provide the information below to [email protected] so we can assist with a specification. - Level of fire protection required (i.e. 30, 60, 90min, etc.) - Each steel section dimension (i.e. 254x146x37 UB) - Quantity and length of each section (or overall meterage for each section) - Orientation (horizontal or vertical) - Number of sides to be painted (all sides, 3 sides, 1 flange, etc.) - Structural Steel Design Code (i.e. EuroCode, BS5950, BS476; Part 21, etc.) - Building type (i.e. office, domestic, storage, etc.) - Environment (internal, external, car park, chemical exposure, etc.) - Application on site or in shop Alternatively you can just forward us drawings, fabrication/cutting lists and we'll extract the information from them but in that instance we'd need some guidance as to what to allow for i.e. all steels on first floor, etc.
